Health and weight is really important in my household. My mother was very overweight about five years ago and my dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes. We've been on a family diet for about seven years? Wow, its been a long time. Of course we have allowed ourselves to eat more than what the diet allowed, but for the most part our eating has changed entirely because of this diet.
I lost 50 lbs in about four months without much exercise. All we ate was chicken and lettuce, with whatever salt or pepper or seasoning or dressing you wanted. Lots of vegetables. Never any pasta, bread rarely but often enough so that your body was familiar, no sugar, no dairy. I drank a lot of water with lemons in it and tea. Smoothies and protein shakes were allowed so long as they did not have extra sugar. We eat six small meals a day that focus on protein and nothing else instead of three. Breakfast is the most important meal. Whenever I am woken up my mom has a granola bar or a hardboiled egg or something for me to choke down. The faster you eat in the morning the sooner your metabolism starts and the more calories you burn through out the day. And do not eat an hour or two before going to bed!! Its true, you burn more weight sleeping than watching TV. But when you sleep on a full stomach it just turns to fat.
to this day most of what I eat is meat and lettuce!
There is a cabbage soup recipe that my mother learned from Dolly Parton that takes more calories to burn that in it. Its actually very delicious. There is a specific ingredient in it that brings out the flavor . . . I dont remember what it is but when I do Ill post it.
My best advice physically is dance, martial arts, and walking your dog! I hate working out. If it isnt pilaties or yoga its boring as dirt and I have no motivation. But running with my dog? Much better than a treadmill.

yeah, I'd think that'd drive me nuts. I get anemic easy, tho with the birthcontrol its better, but I still need the beef. and don't tell me that green veg has more iron then meat, yes it does but the iron it veg is harder to absorb.
tho my mom is driving me nuts because she's so damn picky about what she eats

Just remember guys, it's the carbs and sugars that are really bad for you. Fats and proteins are fine. Slow-carbs like beans are good for you though.

Coffee is a bean. Chocolate is made from a bean. ;D Actually, I'm weird. I like buttered lima beans with a smidgeon of salt and a bit more pepper. ;D Red beans, white beans, whatever. I'll eat them. And whatever those funky white beans are that look like macadamia (<--sp?) nuts.

Sadly, no one else in the house likes beans, unless I'm making chili. *rolls eyes*

I feel your pain ... I LOVE seafood, but the most the boyfriend will have of it is fish fillet. :-/ And we live like, half an hour from the coast? le sigh.
I try to cut down on carbs for myself, though the boyfriend needs them. (And I mean needs - He eats for two, but he's so skinny it's actually giving him health problems.)

chichidees! aka, garbanzo beans. soo yummy. I like cooking them with kale and sausage. or making dip. or making a pasta sauce with brocoli and anchovy. you can do it with white beans too but its a different texture.

I got an Oster Grillini for Christmas so I'm starting to cook more healthy again. I love grilling and used to have a Foreman but I thought the coating on the thing was too quick to go so I didn't get another. This one looks good from the reviews. First meal, a few mins here, will be a piece of top sirloin and veggies. I keep weird hours though so I can't really keep on a normal meal schedule. I just eat little meals mostly except for one bigger meal at some point, watch the cals, fat et all. I use Fit Day or Diet Power software to track all that. I have both. I can never make up my mind which one I like better, like certain aspects of each so I just put the same data in both and use both to track my food, exercise etc. I am starting yoga next week at a local Unity church which has all kinds of classes. I will be skipping services, not my thing, but taking classes of various kinds there and maybe hanging out in their bookstore which has a cafe and where people meet up before and after classes a lot apparently. I haven't actually taken yoga in a while though I do it at home sometimes, but I need the motivation of other people being there, shrug. I don't like the word "diet" much. That's not something I do for long. I just work to be healthier overall. I do have some weight to lose though. I've been too inactive of late...

Oh? Does birth control help with anemia a lot? I'm actually quite anemic myself so I'd love to know if it does! :) And ha ha, yeah, I've heard the whole 'green veggies will be better' from other people as well but beef is definitely the better way to absorb iron. Although for some reason the plant-based iron supplement I've been taking has been working wonders; much better than the pill supplements and even more effective than red meat.

it can if you're getting anemic from heavy periods. I went from having a heavy 5-7 day period to barely a 1 day one.

this is brilliant!

I'm doing the small meals thing, lots of red meat. I don't like chicken but I love beef. If I don't eat beef every week I feel sick and my hair starts to fall out. Weird. So yeah, dropped most of the processed stuff, added more cabbage and yummy things like that. I tried to eat pizza the other day and felt SO sick, so this natural-foods diet is starting to work. My body is rejecting processed foods now? hahaha

Walking is okay, I prefer to walk with my dog. Miss Phoebe loves her walks! She's so much fun. I like hiking but it hurts my knees more than it did 10 years ago. D'oh! I love P90x. Weight training is always my favorite and I like the challenge. FEEL THE BUURRRNNNN!!!! Yoga is epic, always enjoy that.

I hiked 3 miles Saturday and I think after 2 weeks I'm starting to feel the results of my exercise, I did far better on the hike than I expected.

So my weight is still floating around 170 so I've a long way to go before I hit 130 but it's better than the 180, then 176 that it was before. Score! Size 8 jeans here I come!
