L O L I T A

Hello Lolitas!

I thought I'd start a thread just incase there were any lovely lolitas out there on Dollieh Sanctuary :)

I know a lot of people dress their dolls in lolita, but does anyone wear it themselves as well? And I don't just mean classical lolita, any type of lolita is welcome here - even if you're just starting out or kinda interested in the style. I just ask that no-one is judgemental because of brand/off-brand differences (there's a lot of arguments going on in the lolita community over this) and that nobody is nastily critical of someone else's style.

So, I'll ask a couple of questions to get started ^_^

Do your dolls wear lolita?
Do you wear lolita?
Where do you get your lolita clothes?
What's your favourite style of lolita?

xx <3 xx

I love the style of lolita but I'm too self conscious to get anything too fancy or wear it outside of taking photos and Halloween. And I'm a bit too cheap XD I love dresses, and have tons (though only one that is actually lolita or at least was bought at a lolita shop), but for whatever reason I hardly ever wear them except the ones that are acceptable to wear to church. ><

When I was in Japan my friend and I stalked every lolita shop we could find and of course had the fun of complete sticker shock having not known what the prices could be. Even second hand were fairly expensive. We then ran into Bodyline and ended up getting a few things from there. My friend was better at picking out practical clothes that could be mixed with her normal outfits and I just picked a really odd outfit and a simple black dress. XD

Black dress bought at Bodyline
Other outfit bought at Bodyline, excluding hat and tie.

So yes, I love all the different styles of lolita, especially gothic, but probably wouldn't wear it much myself. Though I may dress my dolly up if I can get my head around the prices. XD Or learn to sew.

Ahhhh Bodyline, I just bought some stuff from there :D I'll have to post some pics soon..

I must admit there are a few people who don't "get" lolita and you need a certain confidence to be able to wear it out and about. I started off with goth, so was used to sticking out before I got into lolita LOL

I keep stalking Bodyline because there are outfits I want to get but the sizing is so difficult. I think I'm in the Medium range or a bit bigger but I have more hips. XD And I have a hard time buying things I can't actually look at and touch in person. I hate making decisions, it takes forever for me to decide on something.

Haha, my parents gave me some pretty odd looks when I showed them what I had bought. It was pretty funny. Most of the reaction was to the black and yellow outfit of course because it was just so odd to them. Especially because I don't like wearing anything that shows skin. My aunt thought it was lingerie or something because of the straps holding the leggings to the shorts. >_> They also don't see why I like Lolita since I always tell them I don't like frilly clothes. XD

Yes, do post pictures! Pictures are the best. ^_^

I'll find some more tomorrow, but that was my first EVER attempt at lolita. You can still see the huge goth boots ^_^ I loved that dress, I wore it so often. Please be kind, I just got some very nasty comments online over this picture...

Another subject I'd like to ask people about... Have you ever been called an "ita" or been shunned by other people in the lolita community? I had that happen to me (but just had a good chat with a good friend which helped me feel better!) but in any community, even in the BJD community, people are going to be unpleasant. How do we cope?

I have one lolita outfit I bought from QutieLand (a matching skirt and blouse). I think it's probably a gothic lolita style, but instead of the traditional black-and-white it's black-and-blue themed. I don't have any photos to upload though, I lost them with my old camera. ^^;

When I wore my outfit to a convention for the first time, I was actually surprised NOT to be called an "ita". I thought for sure one or two people would say that to me (ha, I was a nervous wreck for the first couple of minutes  ), but a lot of people actually commented on how pretty my skirt was and asked to take pictures. Such a nice experience. <3

People called you an "ita" PopularFizzyDrink?! Shame on them. :x I think you look wonderful in that lolita dress. If I were you, I'd console myself with the knowledge that "I" (sub "I" for "PopularFizzyDrink" here) look great. I've seen a lot of 'proper' lolita wearing outfits that looked nice, but it just didn't suit them. Your dress suits you, and that's what matters. ;)

Your outfit looks lovely! (Not that I know the first thing about lolita other than I think the clothes are cute. Now you have me reading up on what an ita is. XD Funny I didn't run across that in all my random searching and stalking of things lolita a few years back. >_>)

And you pull it off really well. Also, I want your boots. I know they are everywhere in all types of hobbies but I dislike snobby people who will look down on someone else or spend all their time trying to find a reason to keep another person out of the group because they don't fit in with whatever the perceived standard is. Blegh. But maybe that is because I'm always the clueless one who just thinks everything is awesome no matter what. XD

I am now distracted by a blog telling the do's and don'ts of lolita. Very interesting. Hee, I would definitely fall into the Ita category.

If I were to do *anything* it would be full on Victorian or Edwardian Older Lady, which could probably pass as "madame." But I can see me doing lolita 40 years ago...when I was slim and cute. Now I am just old and tired, which can pass for "dignified." In my hippie days I did a lot of Gunnie Sax style prairie dresses, which were not that far off from lolita.

I like to look at Lolita and Gothic Lolita costumes, but I could never dress that way.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

Not even at a convention where 'normal clothing' somehow seems to make you stand out more? 0:)
