Yes, young kittehs are noisy, go where they shouldn't, do what they shouldn't. and are all like, "Wut?" when you tell them to stop. Booger is 2 and is still in kitten phase. When I got her I hadn't had a kitten (only adult cats) since 1994. It was....an adjustment.

My previous kitten rescue, Mr. Biddles, came along when Ski aka Demonspawn was a crochety five year old...he'd always been crochety, he was just five now. Biddles wanted to PLAY! He'd gotten his throat ripped open inviting the wrong alley cat to PLAY! After I got him healed up, he worked on Ski and figure out how to do it: run up, TAG you're IT! and run like Hell, cuz Ski was going for blood and guts. He kept this up for many years. He'd settled down, comparatively, and was about seven when the UnHoly Terror aka Monkey Butt was rescued from the drive thru of the local Jack-In-The-Box by myself. They had plenty of time to get to know her better for a few months as she was in a crate until she was healthy enough to test for Felv - they spent that time mostly hissing at her from the doorway of the kitchn.

She tested negative.

And then she was FREEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! Mr. Biddles was her favorite play-toy. He'd come thru the kitchen, belly low, hissing like a leaky locomotive and she'd follow doing a spot-on Pepe LePew boink-boink-boink. I told Biddles it was Kharmic payback.

Now Monkey Butt is a bit over a year old and they DO play, mostly, though she's MUCH more enthusiastic than he. I think he's warming up to her.

Well, he's only been here a week (as of yesterday) so he may be going cautiously right now to guarantee I don't give him back. After 14 days his official returnability is over and he'll probably do like a car off of warranty and break out wild! hahahaha

Right now he is next to me with the top of his head and all four paws pressed against my right leg....it makes me go all gushie when he does that :)

Yes, well....I spoke too soon. *groan*. If anyone has any suggestions on a) acclimating a cat who has been outdoors to being an indoor only cat and b) convincing the big bully to stop lunging at my poor dog I'd love it. I think he is upset that she gets to go out and he doesn't, because he's is lunging at her every morning, pretty much unprovoked (I don't call the dog walking past him provoking). it's starting to stress me out ;(

Not that I'll return him - it's not like he's drawing blood or chasing her around or something - but I would like to find a solution :(

During the nice weather we keep a window open so Roxy can go out/come in as she pleases and she turns into a little demon every year when it's time for her to be an indoor only cat. Like, she'll jump at and attack your head which is a pretty big problem especially she was never declawed and if she's cranky enough she has no problem drawing blood. I swear 90% of the time she's actually pretty sweet. Best way we've found to deal with it is to wait it out for a few weeks until she's used to the idea that she's not going out and squirt bottle her when she attacks. I know that's probably not that helpful and I would also love to know if someone has a better way of dealing with this.

Buy a water pistol. It's the best cat disciplinary toy in the world. When he lunges at the doggie, squirt him. It doesn't hurt him, but it certainly gets his attention.

but make sure he doesn't know where the water is coming from. Otherwise he'll associate the spray with you, and he'll know that he can get away with it when you're not around. My friend's cat had the same problem. XD

distraction helps: I have a Ron Popeil Pocket Fisherman with a mousie sewn on the end. I can cast that sucker to the far end of the room and reel in the cat. Rinse and repeat until he collapses in exhaustion.
