That said, the much more durable 50 cm Obitsu torso skeletal piece fits the 60 cm dolls just fine!

I do agree that the Volks are prettier, but I like the posing power of the Obitsu.
All you damn kids get offa my lawn!

Well, If you stand the dolls next to each other nude, the aesthetics of the Volks body sculpt are superior in some ways, however IMHO it's a mixed bag. For normal sized breasts, I actually think that both Obitsu and Volks have equally pleasing sculpts, Volks has the edge on the larger busts. The Volks abdomens are very well sculpted, But I find the Obitsu 60cm slim (ball joint body) abdomen to be very pleasing as well. The sculpt of the legs of a Volks are probably a little more realistic and in that way aesthetically superior, but i have found that the Obitsu 60cm ladies with the balljoints are very pleasing to the eye also.

It's odd though, Volks and Obitsu do completely differnet things with the body sculpts. Volks is more realistic and has a more detailed sculpt, but Obitsu goes for a more simplified sculpt, with idealized proportions. Oddly enough the heads available for the Obitsus follow a more realistic sculpt style. They have their anime styled heads as well, but most are more natural looking than that. Volks on the otherhand is firmly rooted (their character dolls) in the world of Anime for their head scultps. So despite the more realistic and well sculpted body, they go for that more stylized head sculpt.

Once they are dressed though, things such as the posability, and the overall look of the face and the doll in clothes becomes more important. To me, Obitsu wins hands down on faces, posing and in clothes made for them they can look every bit as good as a Volks in Volks specific wardrobe.

That said, I like them both, a lot. The Obitsu internal skeleton needs some re-enforcement, but with the ability to replace the standard 60cm skeletal 'spine' with one from the 50 that is more robust, that's not really an issue.

I like my dolliehs a lot.
Actually, I like my dolliehs more than I like a lot of people I know in real life.
Is that bad? I think not!

I think that I should get a DD at some point because I need to do more research. After all, how can I formulate an educated opinion without owning one? Yes. Research. XD Spending money on dolls in the name of science.

I just might be planning a DD2 in my head just because I wanna get a Volks' white skin head.

It's only weird if you have accepted another company's skintones as a "standard" to which all others should conform.

In reference to other skin tones as "standard," I laugh at the term "normal" as a skin-tone. Whose normal are we talking about? Caucasian normal? Asian normal? I'm pretty sure the entire continent of Africa would say that "normal" isn't very normal for them. Ah. It makes me laugh.

As for returning to topic, I've only seen two 1/6 Volks and they were very nice. Floppy but really pretty.

I'm still really wanting an obitsu girl. Operation Convince Husband is in full force. ;-)

Yeah, my comment above was pretty careless XP. Sorry if anyone was offended.

On the 1/6 scale, the affordability of both Volks and Obitsu makes me want to get both and try to replace the Volks skeleton with Obitsu...at the risk of multiple parts flying a round the room, lost screws and sad dolliehs.

Not to worry.
Your Honor, we would site the Obi Wan Kenobi defense.

The doll industry does not have any set of standards that manufacturers are bound to conform to, unlike some other industries such as the automotive, audio/video, and computer industries to name a few. Every doll manufacturer is free to make a doll of any size, proportions, colors, etc., they want. Savvy manufacturers will look at what has gone before them and try to judge what will sell based on history, often adding their own "improvements" as they see fit. The various size classes SD, MSD, etc. are based on the early manufactures in the field and as time goes on those line have blurred as more and varied dolls are brought to market. Colorwise, manufactures have a myriad of reasons, aesthetic and practical, to choose the skin tones they do. Some times to conform to loosely established "norms", sometimes to set their line apart, sometimes for material limitations, etc.

There are relatively few objective ways to compare one doll to another. ABC doll is 2cm taller than XYZ doll. ABC doll is manufactured in Korea and XYZ doll is made in Japan. ABC doll makes their own line of clothes to fit their doll and XYZ doll does not, etc.
After you get through these points it all comes down to opinion and your own personal opinion will dictate which doll/color/size/features/cost you think is better.

If someone figure out a way to strengthen a floppy Neo Goh with Obi parts with minimal toolworking. I'm all ears. I like my Neo Goh, but am tempted to hybrid him to an skinnier Obi slim male just so that he could keep up with my dancing Obi femmes

I was looking through the Sumika Times blog, and it said something about loose joints and reinforcing them with masking tape. I went WTF because there's gotta a sturdier way of reinforcing than that.
