I dont know if this has already been said, but as most people know there are two DD bodies, DDI ,which is disontinued, that was strung together and didn't have option parts. Then there is the DDII, the one with the iternal skeleton with option parts. But there is another, the DDS which is a 55 cm DD with amazing posability still having a beautiful sculpt. But soon, starting at KOBE (a kind of convention in Japan for Volks and other BJD were they sell/ have raffles for limited models and clothing) They are going to be selling a revolutionary DDIII body that is still, beautifully sculpted and has amazing posability that will come with limited sculpted heads as well. They haven't announced if they will be selling it seperatly, but sooner or later they will. It is positive that with Moe and Natsuki will have DDIII bodies and the new Tohou girls will have DDIII bodies. Akira will have a DDS body which I kind of want (haha). So, yeah. DD bodies are really beautiful but are still in progress of the posing though. I bet if you wait they will have outstanding stuff! That's what I'm doing!!

I do know about DDI. Sounds pretty interesting. And if the new DDIII and DDS will be offered as regular models, and more affordable than Obitsu with about the same posing abilities, then I would seriously want a DDS body. (I want a 50cm obitsu but I thought that the hips looked a bit weird). However, if they're more expensive, or non standard body, I'm out.

There really needs to be more companies that release vinyl dolliehs with internal skeleton in this world.
The ever growing wishlist: Hujoo Dana, Obitsu 40, and an army of other Obitsus with anime style heads.
The more expensive end of my wishtlist: Limhwa Half Elf and Elfdoll Soah, my dream dolls.

Hmmm.. I shall have to find out more about this new body, hopefully Volks will finally see the light and sell replacement parts for the skeleton as well as the outer vinyl. However, I am very fond of my Obitsu, and it would have to be aesthetically awesome and technically awesome to drag my loyalties away from Obitsu.

Ah, never mind, it appears to be a combination of the DDS and DD base body II.

It's just history, it's in the past for a reason. :P Btw, Dream of Doll is actually Korean (I have one!) I forget what all the other companies are, but they're one of the better known ones.

The DDI only has optional extra glove hands and heads (some of which may still be at VolksUSA). The DDI and DDII have different vinyl thickness/types for their heads. The DDI body is strung strangely and uses ratcheted joints to lock into place. It however doesn't pose well, but I'll have to say more once I understand it better. :\

Volks also DOES sell outer vinyl replacement parts and optional hands, however they do not currently (but I heard rumors they are going to?) sell replacement skeleton parts.

Yes, I saw those too on their Japanese site.

http://www.volks.co.jp/jp/dollfiedream/index.aspx (Scroll to the bottom) The internal part will sell for about $25 USD.

That would be very nice if they do start releasing internal skeleton parts! I wonder if it'll just be for their Japan buyers at first, though? Since it's only on the Japanese version of their site. I know NDR was doing that---keeping items available only for Japanese buyers. (Within Japan)

Those all appear to be parts for the new DDS body and if I reading the machine translation right, you would be buying both the interior and exterior parts for a given body section.
I haven't heard/seen anything about DD2 internal parts.

I've owned Obitsus, and I've owned Volks. I'm gonna base my opinions on my own experiences with what I've actually played/collected/dressed/etc etc etc.

Poseability:
Obitsu is much more poseable than Volks, but I'd dare say that Obitsu's articulation is too much. Meaning, if you want a doll that can will be a contortionist, then Obitsu is the way to go. DD bodies can do normal poses well enough. By normal, I meant poses that people can do on a daily basis without looking like you're a member of Cirque de Soleil.

Floppiness:
The Volks DD "floppiness" issue is mostly due to the old designs like the strung DD1 and MDD bodies. The newer DDDy and DD2 has no such floppiness issue, unless someone has...overplayed with theirs. I've had a Dollfie Dream for 2 years now and the joints still creaks.

Durability:
I would have to give this to Volks. I've never played with the newer bodies, but the older 60cm bodies are notorious from breakage. The internal torso joint is so weak, that so many people broke theirs and had to buy replacement repeatedly.

It is rumored that this particular piece will break if you look at it funny. But that rumor is unconfirmed to this date.

I was surprised to find that the Volks neck piece was supposed to be such a brittle part. I've manhandled one of mine so badly because I never knew that you're supposed to be careful with that piece. So far, I haven't broken any of mine, and I've had 5 DDs already (and one coming).

But if it does break, Mimi on Ebay sells metal neck piece replacement. Not only is it more durable, but it actually gives the neck a bit more range in poseability.

Aesthetics:

There's a reason why DDs are so much popular among otakus around the world. There's a reason why people are sometimes shelling out thousands of dollars for one. And it's not even because of the "Volks" factor. It's because they're just that much prettier. They actually look like anime characters. Their bodies looks good in plain and revealing clothes, unlike Obitsus, that has such...a robotic look.

My own opinion, having had an Obitsu 60cm and now having a DDDy, is definitely on the Volks side. When I first got my Obitsu I was totally into her and didn't see a difference at all between the two, other than that you could get a bit more range in option parts with Volks. But having had her for two years or so, her strange proportions and various other difficulties with swapping of parts and repair got too frustrating. The DDDy, and the DDs I've been able to see and handle, just look and feel much better. Their proportions are pleasing, they feel sturdy and well made, and its surprisingly easy to swap out parts (especially heads, no squeezing and prying to get off headcaps). And their actual body measurements are a bit more in line with the 'standard' 1/3 dolls which makes dressing and finding shoes a bit easier than the skinny Obitsus (too skinny for most SD, too big for most MSD, impossibly tiny feet) And given the large and varied fanbase for Dollfies, its pretty easy to find custom option parts made just for them.

That said, the much more durable 50 cm Obitsu torso skeletal piece fits the 60 cm dolls just fine!

I do agree that the Volks are prettier, but I like the posing power of the Obitsu.
