I can agree with a mocking bird, it looks like what we've been calling a "jay bird" (not a proper one) that dive bombs things and acts like a jerk. It eats bugs and things we need it to eat but it could be quieter, and we've had nice weather lately.

Yep. That's a mockingbird all right. They can get very aggressive, they not only harbor grudges, they feed and water and tend grudges, and they never forget something that has gotten their goat. They can even remember human faces year to year.

There will be more lunar eclipses soon. I slept through most of it and we got clouds this morning. If you get the NASA channel on cable they show stuff like that. Live eclipse to someone's great play list.

At lest the mocking bird has changed to the sounds of other birds but he's still echoing off everything.

Very sad suck: My mom just sent be a picture of three small squirrels hanging out outside the window of our living room. Apparently their mom died and they have been out there fore two days calling for her. We always leave food out for our squirrels, but they haven't touched any of it. My sister is making them a nesting box so they can have a place to live. It's just so sad. :( Luckily, they aren't little tiny babies, so hopefully they will figure things out.

Anyone know much about squirrels?

Quite a bit. I rehabbed; mostly birds but occasionally other things.

They aren't grown and are still nursing. They can drink KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement). But the best thing you can do is call Fish and Game (or it might be called Fish and Wildlife where you live) and get a rehabber to come get them.

Really? But they look so big! That explains why they aren't eating any of the fruit left out on the porch. When we have fruit that is going bad, we leave it outside for any city animals looking for a bite to eat.

Poor little squirrel babies, that makes me so sad. I hope you find a solution soon.

I don't know if I have a sux or not, but I'm in a pissy mood so I want to vent.

1. I'm not stupid.
2. I research baby things on pediatrician-approved web sites, like healthychildren.org.
4. I am a stay at home mom, with my baby 24/7, have the inexplicable motherhood-instinct and darn it, I know my baby!
5. I love my parents. (now you know where this is going.)
6. They haven't raised a baby in 36 years.
7. They don't read, research, or like learning new things that challenge their knowledge base. Seriously, they're the reason old-people stereotypes exist.
8. While I will listen to any advice, I prefer applying advice based on modern science, research, and proven experience.
9. They won't listen to anything, especially modern advice because it offends their grand position of age and experience. "How dare you challenge me?"
10. They definitely won't listen to me, despite #1 and 2.
11. #3 is a mystery that you will never know!!! muahahahaaa....

For six years I listened to them complain about how my sister was raising her child. Nothing was good enough. My parents' chief complaint was that my sister wouldn't listen to them. "She thinks we don't know anything. We raised you girls and you turned out fine." But the problem is that they really don't. I'm not just being a jerk or some know-it-all asshat. They depend solely on "the way we did things then." It seems like everything they do now is born of a prideful, defensive stance. They're entrenched in their viewpoint and refuse to yield and the older they get the meaner, more stubborn, and more angry they get.

You know, all my sister wanted was for the baby to sleep on her back and not put blankets over her. That was it. What did my Mom do? Ignored that and flipped her over on purpose to sleep on her belly AND she swaddled the heck outta that kid with blankets. Big blankets. Heavy blankets. Super fleecy blankets. I call them Death Blankets. Blankets of Suffocation. SIDS-Monsters. We have baby blankets but you can be sure they're NOT in my crib. My favorite is the blue one with the little monkey on it. I love all the monkey stuff!!! Weeeee.... so cute.

Before my son was born, my dad basically told me this. "We're going to do what we want, anyway." "We don't want to set up a crib again (my niece's). He can just sleep on the floor surrounded by pillows, or in the bed with us." And they wonder why I won't send my wee little infant son over to stay at their house. *insert duh here*

I think every parent probably deals with this kind of stuff on some level. It just seems like, with my family, there's no room for discussion. If you attempt a conversation that is civil, with firm but polite requests, they ignore it. If you get more firm, they get offended and still ignore it. If you argue and get angry because you've told 'em a hundred times and they won't listen, they think you're unreasonable. "How dare you question me?"

Oh well. I love them, I'm glad they're still in my life. I just wish they'd calm down and enjoy family time instead of being bitter. I think they feel sidelined, now that their kids are married and have kids. I've a family of my own now, but they still want to be the parent and the one in charge. I can only hope they'll adjust and be happy in the time they have left. I want happy memories of my parents, you know? I don't want to be sitting at a funeral home wishing things had been better.

Treth, my mom feels your pain when it comes to her ex-in laws.

When I was a baby I had an intolerance to oatmeal, I would get very sick from eating it and it's not like I was fussy...I ate it..But I'd throw it up after. My grandma was always bitching about it, claiming my mother was doing something wrong to warrant me not being able to handle it. So she waited until my parents were both out of the house...

And forced a full bowl of oatmeal down my throat...Yes forced, because she bragged about how she 'made her eat it' to my mother and my mom was PISSED, especially since...I wound up throwing it ALL up. My mom and dad were BOTH pissed off at this point, my grandma tried to get my dad to side with her and this was the few times he was on my mom's side. She made his ONLY baby daughter sick after all...And He was as angry with her as my mom was.

My mom...She got even. She said in a calm voice: "This will never happen again. You know why? Because I'M going to throw out all the oatmeal in this house. Every.Last.Grain." And she did, she passed me off to my dad and oatmeal didn't make it back into the house until I could actually handle it.

XD; Unfortunately my cousin in law on my mom's side...Well she's kind of coo-coo for coco puffs as far as new baby goes...Their pediatrician fed them some scare tactic and she was calling EVERYONE threatening us with not being able to see the new baby until we all got whooping cough shots including the 'kids' (myself included)...No one's come to see that kid BTW. We're not falling for THAT one.
