SpiralPrince: Boy do I know how that feels - my box full of floating heads is somewhat proof of that... Not to mention the terrible and huge "wishlist"

Upper New York State is full of small towns that were built up from about 1820-1900, about the same time that New Orleans was built up; ie, Victorian and American Gothic style. The big difference is in the exterior decoration; in New Orleans, exterior decoration is almost exclusively done in wrought iron because of both the damp and insect problems; wooden "gingerbread" wouldn't last very long down there. In upper New York State, the exterior decoration is carved wooden "gingerbread."
Most New York City expatriots go north rather than south; up into the state itself, or farther north than that, just as former London dwellers generally don't venture farther away than Wimbledon. The culture shock isn't nearly as great, not to mention the heat.

I wanna cry. I spent my whole day on it and this is what I got. *curls up in the fetal position*
