Hello DS Friends,
So as the title suggests, I have a big favor to ask: I want to right a paper about the Dollieh Sanctuary. Let me explain a little. This semester I am enrolled in an Anthropology class on Folklore. For our final paper we get to choose a topic and apply what we have learned in the class to said topic. Of course I jumped at the chance to write about my dolls. But then I realized I would much rather write about the amazing people that make this hobby so much fun, and folklore is about people after all. We have been learning about folk groups and how they have their own rituals, traditions, lingo, ect. We have also been learning about how the internet is bringing people together in completely new ways, causing Anthropologists to redefine "folk group". Bascially, and ifthere are any Anthropologists here please feel free to chime in/put me to shame , a folk group is a somehwat informal group of two or more people who share something in common. What I would like to do is write a paper about how the DS is a folk group. I want to talk about threads, box openings, swaps, meets, and a bunch of other stuff including our "lingo" (bjd, MSD, tiny, ect.)
So, I am seeking "permission" from the members of this forum to write about it for my paper. I am looking for a general "yes, this is okay...we are comfortable with it."I will NOT use anybody's names whatsoever. With permission from individuals I may use their screen name/avatar but ONLY with that particular person's consent, and if no one wants that to happen it won't. I can just say "a forum member/forum members". My goal is to present the DS and doll collectors as a folk group, and show my colleagues what amazing people you all are. I am hoping to bring in my MSD, Adelayde for "help" (She will probably embarrass me by refusing to stand and, hey, I can include that as part of my presentation )
Also, I am a newbie here. I love this forum. I feel so welcome here, you are all such kind people, and I LOVE looking at all your dolliehs. Honestly, I hope to be hanging out for a long time, but I have a lot of catching up to do. As I am writing some questions will probably pop up for me, and being a newbie, I would like to post them here for you all to help me answer. This is, of course, if the general feeling about this is positive. I would love your involvement. I promise it won't be a commitment and no one is expected to contribute a lot or even at all. I hope it will be fun ( I know it will be fun!) So let me know what you think. Threads are all about sharing, right? I hope to share this with you all...not to sound too corny...
Thanks for your consideration!!
