Dirili's outfit thread

They're too sexy for their clothing - but they have to wear them anyway! Did you buy it? Did you make it? Who cares - let'm strut their stuff here!

ug that tie alone took me 6 hours. I spent a while looking at how real ties were constructed and all. Ended up being a bit too short though. I can't tie it in a double Windsor knot which I think tends to look better. Guess I'll see with the next tie I make if that will work on 1/3rd scale.

6 hours wow!! I like Windsor knots, you're right they do look nice, but I still think your tie looks great, and doesn't look to short too me when it's on him. And it's amazing you didn't use a pattern!

But if you do want one, this is the one I used, and it has a tutorial too. http://www.american-doll-outfitters.com ... ttern.html :D

Yep, I always make the patterns myself Jany :) that's part of why I always have so many little mistakes in them.

brit, thanks so much for the link! That'll definitely be very useful.

the tie is too short to tie in a double windsor knot, just barely long enough to tie in the know in the picture hehe. The stub of it is very close to the knot.

A lot of what took me so long was that I was trying to keep the tie as thin as possible, so I was trying to keep the seams small, so I was very slowly and carefully pressing each seam as I folded it. But that tutorial looks like it should be a lot faster and easier! So I'll try that with my next tie.

I tried to sew a tie for a Ken doll once... :P Pressing is very helpful, I've discovered, but it's not magical. Luckily, in 1/6 scale you have to get pretty close before you can tell the tie just a scrap of fabric. :)

The whole outfit is great, especially together, but I think I like the pants best for whatever reason. Realistic and a good fit.

Thanks about the pants! :D I find pants for guys kind of hard... still trying to work out a good way to shape the crotch area. the newest pants I just sewed for the outfit I'm working on now are even better ^_^ Getting used to things more and more, little by little.

Nothing wrong with ruffles and such, but now I actually find it more rewarding when I figure out how to reproduce ordinary clothes, like pants and hoodies, in whatever scale. It's a different kind of challenge (and there's less fabric to hide mistakes... >_> ).

hehe yeah, it can be harder to fix or hide mistakes on simpler things. But the good thing is that it's easier to start them over from scratch if it's too bad at least!

Just finished up this outfit for Aristotle. He was delayed because I had to take 2 days out to make a bigger blanket for my niece.

I just finished sewing for Socrates. Ug the pant lets really need to be waaay looser to make his legs look less skinny so I may redo them later. I really hate skinny legs on guys. The shoes are way too big, but I don't have an appropriate pair for him right now, so I just threw those on him for now.

I love that paisley on Socrates. It is gorgeous and a perfect scale for him.
