I'm sorry my posts are so short, I've been talking about this with a lot of people and I am so fed up with the whole situation. Fortunately our Christmas dinner at school with the kids from my class was wonderful. He didn't ruin my day entirely.

He WAS a victim of a postal mishap up to when he opened the package, there are plenty of people out there that will just automatically assume a package is for them if it comes to their doorstep. I wouldn't like it if my package was opened by someone else, but it is understandable.

He went from victim to thief the minute he ate the contents.

Don't try to negotiate with him any more Evelien, people can do some scary things if they're angry. Contact authorities. Also, the longer this is drawn out the more stressful it is for you. Maybe the authorities won't help as much as we think they will, but at the very least they will help end things quicker.

if anythings it a paper trail on him. The way it sounds, it seems like he'd do it again if he thought he could get away with it. >:c

I honestly can't see how that guy works out the victim part. It's rather common (in Germany, anyway) to leave packages at a neighbor's place if the recipient isn't home, but a) the neighbors agree to take the package FOR SOMEONE ELSE, and b) even if the postman doesn't explicitly tell them it's not for them, they should realize it's not their freakin' name on the parcel. So mishap or no, that dude's a stinking thief in my book.

Sounds like he is having a normal guilt response. guilty people often first try to blame-shift, then justify, then they just get angry. he isn't angry at himself for being a jerk but angry that you call him out and expose his wrong-doing. guilty people will do even more wrong to cover up the initial wrong, they spiral down through increasingly naughty behaviour, like what he is doing to you. he will be better off once he confesses and clears the air but that takes guts and he sounds like a right coward.

Threaten to sue Evelien. I normally wouldn't encourage the suing card but I think this is getting to a lawsuit point.

Oh - I'm so sorry everyone, this had turned out to be a pretty awful year all round hasn't it? My thoughts are with all of you!

Thanks for the well-wishes. All of the legal arrangements are more or less sorted, my aunt seems to have realised we don't care much for money (the mementos we picked up are categorically worth nothing but sentimental value) and the funeral will be in the new year. She knew so many people that it's turned into a sort-of anyone can turn up party, with donations to the old veterans and the hospice too many members of this family have gone through. I think she'd approve!

Vetinari - I'm glad things have gone smoothly. People get strange when a relative dies. Maybe it's a good thing my
grandparents flat out told us we're not getting anything when they go. XD Of course I'd much rather they not talk that way. >_>

Evelin - I am just shocked that he would do something like that. *shakes head* I hope everything works out alright.

I'm with you DollyKim! Next year (provided the world doesn't end. ) simply must be better for everyone! ^_^
