Thanks DollyKim, yeah she's in a better place now, and wont have to deal with all of the family politics anymore which I'm grateful for. I'm going to try and rescue a couple of trinkets, but I'm not too optimistic - I just hope it doesn't all end up on EvilBay or in an antiques shop... I suspect an awful lot of her stuff is just going to go "missing", it had already begun when she was still around, it's so sad I couldn't give a damn about money it's the sentimental stuff. I just hope we manage to rescue some photos - living so far away it's been difficult to visit as often as we wanted, but we always wrote to each other (even when her writing became illegible!) I just hope she knew that I was there in the end

Vetinari, you have my condolences. I hope things don't pan out as badly as you fear, for the sake of all the family. I know the terrible and irreparable rift caused after my husband's grandmother passed and his uncle kept everything she had

Thanks again, all of the necessary legal faff is now more or less done, a few more hours tomorrow and everything should be sorted funeral-wise. She's had a good-innings as people around here say, and had a very full-life, so in that sense I suppose it was her time. It's just going to be an odd Christmas without her sitting at the head of the table and grumbling about the exact method of cooking everything!

I'm sorry for your loss, especially at this time of year. My grandmother passed away this May and it does take a while to sink in. The sudden "not-there-ness" is hard to adjust to. We weren't able to drop anything at all, at the time there was so much going on that we just pushed through. It sounds so horribly calloused I guess but things needed doing and we did them. I do hope that your family makes it through the legal aftermath intact and I hope that your work toward your degree will still be on-track. Things around my grandparents' house started disappearing too. Six sons started treating it like an excavation for family treasure. It's frustrating for sure and I hope you'll get a few mementos to keep.

Well, this is a couple of sucks.

My partner doesn't want me going to Austria for 2 weeks (I don't really want to go either), so I've been feeling like crap about making her cry.

Then my mom's been having me work for her at the office doing all the junk she doesn't want to do, and it took a good 3 hours to get me started because first she didn't give me a scanner, then the computer didn't have the driver for the scanner and it's a terrible computer and doesn't download anything from anywhere. Next I kept scanning things backwards or upside down.

My mother then told me she won't be paying my last class for college because I failed a course, so I'm going to try and get a loan. If I can't get a loan I won't be graduating because of 1 class for maybe a year.

I have to postpone my hysterectomy indefinitely because I need to get steady work. Good luck with that, right?

And I've re-realized I HATE daytime TV here. I can't stand it! I'm waiting on my oil to get changed, and the TV is too loud and the shows are infuriating.

Can today be done yet?

My condolences, Vetinari. Lost both my folks around New Years, 4 years apart. I like to think they are traveling around on the astral plane in a 40's jalopy, looking like they did on their wedding day and having a ball together.

Even if they don't share any of her material possesions with you, you still have your memories and they can't take those and sell them on ebay! I'm sure she'd want you to have a good holiday season. *hugs!*

I'm about ready to start breathing fire. Dealing with the public has never been one of my strong points, and I get the dregs of humanity coming through the gas station convenience store in the evening... four days in a row is too many days in a row to have to deal with so many assholes. If I have to listen to one more f**king person say "I just printed it this morning ha ha" when I check to see if their $20 bill is counterfeit, I might have to punch someone.

Meh, Lamia ... I worked in retail for more years than I want to recall and those people aren't restricted to late night convenience stores. For some reason they just don't think they are anything but original ... kind of like the guy in the designer suit who, when you scan an item that doesn't appear in the system, quips cheerily "I guess it's free, then!". And you have to try to smile and chuckle a little like you hadn't heard that 5 times already that week ........
