I think my subconcious is trying to tell me something... This is the 3rd essay/assignment in a row that I'll be doing an all-nighter on, feeling completely and utterly apathetic towards this degree, despite how much it's costing me! I suppose it doesn't help that an awful lot of the supposed "masters" level courses we've been given are shared with 1st year undergraduates, and really aren't up to par with my experiences at my previous uni... it all seems kinda boring and far too essay based for a science degree! 3 years of rather difficult mathematics has now morphed into essay after essay, attempting to clean up the messes that biologists make of their data (Seriously wtf is up with that, most of the data should be comparable but somehow isn't - I mean polymers! Not biological samples... how the hell do you get order of magnitude variations with your data like that?? And why hasn't anyone shouted at you??? Ugh if I was the journal editor I'd refuse to publish...)

Also random qs. anyone know why the resin in our dolliehs is aromatic based rather than aliphatic? Aliphatic sounds like it should be better wrt the whole UV thing, but I'm guessing some other property is compromised...

Double post (sorry!): The seemingly arbitrary 1500 word limit to this literature review is far too short...(methinks the lecturer is keeping his work-load down...) In order to cover all of the basics of the topic this essay has turned out uncomfortably list-like in places...

Trying to keep myself from over paying for retail therapy I don't even know if I need or not. Trying to make myself have a bit more patience when it comes to things like Monsters. Might treat myself to some music or an ebook.

I hate not having a car because if I did I could just walk around a mall or something, not buy a thing, and feel better :\

And here I have a car, but have been ordered not to drive :X. It started out fairly simple and like "hey, no biggie." and now I'm rolling around like "Oh I could go to the--wait...nevermind."

Sounds frustrating. My husband got his Ph.D. 4 years ago and depending on the degree of burn-out (no pun intended) he'd either rage against the unbelievable stupidity of every research article ever written, "how did this get published???" or he'd bemoan the years of wasted life, or he'd sit and stare at his monitor after having pulled another all-nighter. He'd call and we'd talk for hours about whether or not he was making the right decision, if staying in school had been worth it, etc.

Just keep sight of your end-goal, envision what having the degree will do for you and keep hold of how it will make you feel once you have it. Holding on to the feeling of future-success is helpful when you're in the trenches. Remember why you're there and it makes the often times awful journey worth it.

Courses can be a bit ridiculous - I mean, I admit I never had courses with first year undergrads, just first year doctoral students, so that is a bit odd - but sometimes the ends do justify the means. I would say though that if you truly feel as though it's not going well try and talk to someone about it or, during Winter Break, consider your options.

My college runs that way at least in the college of education it does. My mom takes classes with students in the masters track but she says they have to do a ton more work. Keep going! Just having that silly bit of paper is generally a good thing. Even if you decide to do something completely unrelated after pulling teeth to get it. XD I think I will stick with my bachelors and worry about graduate school after I've worked for a bit. Will be good to escape the "world of academia" for a bit. Much as I love it...

As someone who is habitually discriminated against in her workplace because all she has is a lowly Associates degree (and over 15 frigging years of real world experience) that stupid piece of paper is worth having even if you did nothing to earn it. I'm growing increasingly tired of seeing degreed morons get paid more than I do for shittier work than I would ever allow to pass my hands, only because THEY have an UNDERGRAD degree. I know yours is a higher one than that, but academic discrimination hits many levels.

My new boss isn't a JD (normally required to hold a high position in a law school) and he constantly pimps his PhD so he can sound more impressive ;p

Thanks guys - yeah I keep tying to tell myself that it's only really 9 more months and if I just man up I'll get something out of it all. It's just frustrating as hell!
