The stories have done that before. When the Bitch in Boots kidnapped (catnapped?) Pinky, the action took place *inside* the electronic world.
The Electronic realm (online or in computers) has its denizens which we have never seen in "physical RL" forms, There are individuals who have had both electronic AND physical forms and those who have never crossed that barrier.
Noriko (AKA Bitch in Boots" and Nyoko would seem to be entirely electronic in origins as is their sister (we have not seen yet) "N-3". I am not at all sure of "Noburu" who is seen as being in the Electronic Realms, but has died before these stories started. (See chart under the "Worlds of MAdH" heading)
Those who originate in the Electronic Realms but have physical avatars would include Hyatt who is (was) a modified virus. It took Diamond's magic to give her a physical body, perhaps done to rescue her from some situation.
Hyatt worked with Ice from time to time in the physical realm.
NEW INFORMATION: Ice does not have an electronic avatar... the scene we are seeing at first, are Jazz' reminiscences of a mission they went on, in the Real world, a while back, as Jazz is now online investigating Advanced Medica through the CPA computer files. Hence the title "Jazz Dreams"
Pinky seems capable of crossing over although that might have been the magic of Diamond's mirror.
Jazz is a human entity that has an online "avatar" that works in the Electronic Realms. She has done so when investigating the loss of the "package" (Miyuki).
There is a great intermingling of Magic and Electronics which of course bears out the famous statement "Any technology, sufficiently advanced, is indistinguisheable from magic"
It is also my belief that Nekomimi are being experimented upon in order to make them capable of entering the Electronic realms directly instead of through use of an avatar. Advanced Medica and other similar entities may be working for/with the Defense department with the idea of weaponizing Nekomimis. Imagine it if you can... a Neutron Bomb with the mind of a Nekomimi! GYAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
