Kittyasauras, pay those mean b*tches no heed. Your dress looks great, and from what I can see it doesn't even break any of the 'rules' lolita communities post up. And it is cool that you make your own dresses, let the mean brand-obsessies be jealous all they want over your skills. They were probably being spiteful because they would have to pay $100+ just to buy something you made yourself. Really, I researched quite a bit about the lolita fashion before buying my first outfit so I can say with 100% certainty that your awesome JSK isn't "ita" or whatever they might've said about it. Just a petticoat and a blouse with a slightly longer sleeve would've made it a GREAT classic lolita outfit (I don't really get it either, but for some reason you shouldn't have sleeves shorter than a regular t-shirt if you're not going for an ero-loli..?). :D

Kittyasauras, that dress is adorable. I hate mean people. They have no life, obviously, so they get what little enjoyment they can out of making fun of others.

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm about Gunnie Sax (Jessica McClintock), but you are probably going to have much better luck finding them at consignment shops that deal with vintage clothing or on Ebay. Most people who still have GS's aren't going to donate them. LOL!

When did a brand name of something decide how much of a person you are? I think if they went so far out of their way to make fun of your home made clothes it's because they couldn't do it themselves. Attack what they can't have. If you want to get back in to it then try again, don't let a$$holes ruin things for you. I don't want to think what hobbies I wouldn't be in to if I had listened to other people.

I thank you all for your inspirations, but I have given up on Lolita...and moved on to Mori! haha I may give loli another swing whenever I make it to a real con, just to dress up. ;)

And you'd be surprised what you find at thrift stores. I found '06 SDCC exclusive Golden Bender and a '73 AHI Creature (!!!). It takes patience and a lot of digging. But if I don't run into any I will probably buy one on ebay. They are just too wonderful to pass up.

:EDIT: did any of you guys ever see that show called "What not to Wear"? I think it came on TLC or something. There was a Lolita girl on there. I felt so bad for her, but she did go on the show willingly...so maybe I didn't feel too bad.

It's human nature to form cliques, groups, rules, and standards. On some intrinsic level we all want to belong. There's really no such thing as non-conformity is there. As soon as someone breaks out and starts something, there's 10 other people to follow then try to make rules to conform it. Totally lame. Sorry the rule-makers tried to ruin your loli experience. Can't listen to the haters, they just try to bring us all down.

I think the hardest thing a person can do is to be themselves, to actually stand out.

I think your outfit was adorable, and you are an appropriate age to wear it.

I did not see the Loli episode of "What Not To Wear." Sometimes some of those episodes were of people set up by the other people in their lives who think they look ridiculous. It's possible that was the case...but you always have the option to say "No, thank you, and by the way, what busy-body in my life wants to run how I look?" Personally I would have volunteered because I know I don't have a "fashion sense" when it comes to modern clothing, plus they BUY you a wardrobe. I would have loved to have gotten a makeover and professional looking wardrobe out of them.

I'd do a make over show if I could get to keep the clothes. I've never had jeans that fit me right.

Our dolls can always wear Lolita. My lady Jibriel is picky about her ruffles but Bobby is all for it.

I love the Lolita looks, but am also too old to wear it. I suppose I could get away with a Victorian look, but I really don't go a lot of places so I wouldn't really have use for anything right now. I have several Lolli and Japanese Street fashion books that I love to look at now and then. I'm in the process of making a Lolita dress for one of my Ellowynes, but kinda stalled on it with too much RL happening.

I love to watch What Not To Wear, but only on my DVR so I can ff thru all the whining LOL! It's not much fun to watch the ingrates who should have just had the guts to say no, but the one who really appreciate it, it's wonderful to see how happy they are at the end. I'd never go on it because I love my style, but you do get to keep everything when the show is over. They take all your clothes that they don't like and either donate or dump them. I'd kill to get Ted to do my hair tho. Sigh.

I had several nice Gunny things on ebay a few years back and hardly sold anything even tho I had them priced very low. Not too much interest at the time. Kittyasaurus, any chance you can wear a junior size 7? (I was tiny way back then!)
Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I too would like someone to give me a make over and tell me what fits my body style and what hair looks good on my face shape. It's so much easier to dress our dolls! xD

If it's a vintage size 7 probably not. LOL I actually took my measurements today because I've been looking at those dresses... it's 33/29/36. I wear size med, or 3, 5, and 6 in jrs. I always have fitting problems when buying long sleeve shirts or jackets. My arms are kind of long, and I think my shoulders are wide or something. Jackets are always tight at my shoulders. haha

I dug through my patterns today, and I think if I mix the bodice from one, sleeves and lower from another, I'd have a pretty close replica. The only problem... one pattern calls for almost 8 yards of fabric. eek!

i like lolita fashion. i cant really afford to buy dresses i probably couldnt wear out too often (our weather is crazy suckish here pretty much all year round) i really want to get at least 3 one day though.

i can somewhat understand why they need rules though, lots of lolita girls see it as a way of life not just fashion and with something people find so serious that it consumes most of their lives, they need to feel like theres specific ways to do things i guess.... it's kind of sad i think, i met a girl online who used to cut herself everytime she broke one of those rules... its kinda crazy what some people do because of obsessions....

i bet most elitists feel that way about what ever they obsess over.... lol
back when the anime death note came out and got poplar my friend became obsessed with it, and even though i read some of the manga and saw the show before her she claimed it as "her thing" and wouldn't let me have any thing to do with it lol i made a death note 2 days before she announced she was going to make one so i brought mine to school the next day... she flipped out and asked why i was trying to steal her thing, i was basically like i made mine 3 days ago. so the next day she brought a cheap dollar store note book painted black with a printed out title glued to it to school and started crying because my hand stitched hand stencilled one was better and more accurate.... we ended up not being friends any more 2 years later because to her it felt like i was constantly challenging her and beating her with out trying.... and it was all because she was insecure and i have natural skills.... the same girl also made up a fake boyfriend when i started dating some guy and put a nasty green streak of kool-aid in her hair when i dyed mine pink.... i imagine she would be the kind of person to buy really expensive dolls or dresses if she thought it'd make her better than everyone else =/
