It's freaking hard to make it as an artist no matter what your medium. People make it sound like bjd artists are the 3rd-world-children-working-in-sweatshops of the art world or something and that it's the holiest of mediums. I feel like those implications are demeaning to how hard other artists work.
I don't think anyone here would be thinking along those lines. I know a lot of folks here (self included) are artists of one kind or another. Some of us went to school for it and others work without the need of the degree. Some of us make dolls, some paint, or illustrate, or do 3d rendering. Many of us have a mix of mediums they focus on. The doll artists just get focus and a higher appreciation here since it's a doll forum. And as a doll community we do tend to find the small artist impressive since it's a huge undertaking on your own. If this was a painting or illustration or other art form based group, the dolls would not get nearly as much attention as the medium that is the focus of the group.
I had previously thought that I wouldn't buy a recast of any sort, but I suppose if the company was no longer in business I would probably be willing to buy the recast sculpt then since there's not a business to hurt.
