Actually, I don't think they live there free of rent. Somewhere in an earlier story Hyatt makes a comment about how much rent she paid vs Diamond. I'm pretty sure Anna Marie and Miyuki are covered by Diamond, but since Hyacinth was staying at a hotel (I believe that was what she said) she obvious has some form of income to pay with.
However, as a rent payer myself I can promise you still have to deal with other people's rambunctious children on a daily basis.
