Box opening - AriPina New Mighty head

Postby Bluebird » Fri May 11, 2012 7:44 pm

Hi! I received a New Mighty head from a Korean BJD company called AriPina a few days ago. I ordered this head about two or three weeks ago without faceup, so production and shipping seem to be pretty quick. This head was originally meant for their 65cm male body, but I think it will look beautiful as a female. I'm still looking for the right body for her (maybe around the 60-62cm range). Anyway, here are the box opening photos!

The box that my shipment came in.

The contents of the box were wrapped well in bubble wrap. There was one wig, a present box, CoA, and some postcards.

Image
The Certificate of Authenticity was printed on a really nice, glossy cardstock. Resin batch number and other information are all inside.

Image
The wig is in a pretty style. It reminds me a bit of Saber's hairstyle from Fate/Stay Night. I think I'm suppose to let the hair down loose, since the nape area is pretty bare. I might leave it tied the way it is, though.

Image
The gift box that the doll head came in.

Image
Hah! My new doll head was presented on a pillow (wrapped in bubble wrap, of course). I love the downturned lips. Mighty has more of a pouty look with his company faceup, but I want to give my new doll a more serious and stern expression.

Image
Profile picture. Pretty nose, pretty lips, pretty chin, pretty cheek. I love her!

Image
The inside of the head and headcap. This is my first resin doll, and the first BJD I've held, period. The resin feels pretty thick and hefty to me. However...

Image
...the resin around the eyes is a little thin. The thinness doesn't extend far from the eyes, but I just want to make sure this thinness is normal for a BJD head.

Thanks for looking at my box opening! I have a few more pictures on my Flikr account (http://www.flickr.com/photos/78050140@N05/). I'm really sorry for the fuzzy, dark photos. My camera battery somehow got stuck in my camera, and I haven't been able to pull it out  It was getting dark by the time I gave up and found another camera.

Congratulations! I'm sure she'll make a lovely stern looking girl! ;-) I don't know about the thinness around the eyes to be honest... And I've never heard of ariPina, I'll have to check it out :-D

Congratulations on your first floating head! And your first resin doll! That thin area around the eyes is on purpose and normal. That is where the eyes fit. You will want to find 16mm diameter round eyes. The wig is darling, and I would leave it in the ponytail. I hadn't seen this company, thank you for sharing it! :D

She's so pretty!
And like Zirconmermaid said- the skin has to be thin around the eyes to allow for you to put the eyes in, so they don't sit too far back.

thank you for sharing her! ♥ she is lovely. yes, the resin is supposed to be thin around the eyes. Thin eyelids give a more realistic look. Her wig is very nice. I look forward to seeing her once you have a body for her.

Are you going to paint her yourself?

Resin is pretty heavy duty so it can take a beating within limits of course. Those thin eyelids will hold up just fine, I think you would have to try to break them xD

Thank you all for your comments! I'm falling in love with her the more I look at her.

I don't think AriPina is well known at all. They've released only a few dolls, I couldn't find owner pictures of any of them. I only found out about this company through a link on BJDcollectasy.

Zirconmermaid, cirquemom, Cat, and BlackDragon - I'm glad to hear that the thinness around the eyes is normal. I've ordered some 16mm eyes recently, so I'm looking forward to trying them out. As for the wig, i do like how it looks the way it is in the ponytail. I wonder if I can sew on some additional hair wefts to the nape area so that it doesn't look so bare.

I thought about trying to put a faceup on her myself, but I don't have any of the art supplies or an area around my apartment where I can safely spray sealant (small complex and some young children around). I'm thinking about sending her to a faceup artist at a later time.
