Experiences taking dolls outside?

The most fun you will have with a 1/3 is with babies but only if the doll has natural looking eyes. My Obitsu 60 has been talked too and handed Cheerios when he has his green eyes in. My 70 met a little girl about his size who wasn't too sure about him. The only drawback is the doll might get heavy after awhile so have it wear good shoes or bring something for it to sit on.

And it is a great way to get perks, I've had dolls go behind the scenes at the aquarium and Rian got to play with Muppets and NPH.

Cordie is always with me. I even photographed her first ride on the commuter rail. She has an office in my classroom where I teach. Last year Shriara was my constant companion. Before that, it was a Hitty. I have had a doll with me all the time for the last 4 years. My church is used to my dolls and all of my fellow choir members know Cordie by name. My husband asks if she is in my purse if she is not in her seat in the car-so we don't have to go back. I even used Cordie last week in a literature lesson in my classroom. I teach HS English and use dolls and room boxes to teach characterization and setting.

My 1/4 dolls are *just* too tall to slip into my work bag. I do it occasionally, but only when I know I'll be taking pictures of them. I can't wait for my Minoru girl to arrive because she'll be exactly the right size to carry around with me

I do feel very self-conscious when photographing my dolls outside and I try to make sure nobody sees me. For that reason, I prefer my own balcony - lol - and my parents' backyard. Yes, I'm a wimp.

Today on my way to meet my friend I had Hisui in my arms and I heard squeals of "kawaiiii~" popping up all around me as I was walking along with some "O__o" stares.

After meeting my friend she took me to this little restaurant where she knew the owner and staff, and we, along with one other older lady, were the only customers. They all coo-ed over how cute and big Hisui was. When the older lady left I showed them some photos of my baby in his other outfits and wigs while explaining how customize-able BJDs were. After one particularly showy photo of his upper body they asked to see his six-pack in person, so Hisui did a little strip show right in the restaurant. Good thing no kids were around because it got a little X-rated as they wouldn't believe that he was anatomically correct in uh...all aspects XDD

Overall it was a fairly positive experience, though I hope I can become more familiarized at holding him in my arms (he kept slipping as I was trying to juggle my bag, umbrella and him - plus once in a while my cell would ring so I had to shuffle everything around trying to dig for my phone. I think next time I'm going to put my phone on silent and just ignore all calls while Hisui's with me, lol). The only time I got really nervous was when the older lady at the restaurant reached out and seemed to want to touch his face, but luckily she patted his hair instead x__X

Anyway, I'm planning to take him out again tomorrow shopping with me. Since this week we have vacation I want to get as much...practice in as I can of taking him around. He's so beautiful, I really feel it's a shame to keep him at home hogging all that beauty to myself, lol. I think my next challenge will be actually taking photos of him outside, getting over my paranoia that he's going to fall into a river, out of a tree, face plant in cement, get snatched by a dog/kid or something :3

In my friend's school. She's also an English teacher (but she teaches me Japanese too). The little bear is Rilakkuma, my friend's favourite character. Hisui managed to steal the finger puppet for a photo <3

Try explaining to junior high boys that YES, the dolls are male and I really CAN drop their pants and prove it if they really want me to. ^_~

Lol, actually today Hisui had to do a strip show at a restaurant because my friend and the owner of the restaurant wouldn't believe he was anatomically correct. And then I told them about some dolls having removable private parts, omg that was a good conversation XD Btw, lovely photo!

...I wonder if anyone would comment if I went out wearing a tiara and carrying a sparkly wand like a little old fat white-haired fairy godmother? I think I'll try it some time.

Although I have to admit I worry over every one of those reasons where Hisui's concerned, simply because he was so bloody expensive (most expensive thing I own atm actually). Actually when I first came upon owners photos of BJDs at doll meets and such I was shocked that owners would take their dolls out given how expensive they are. I mean in my mind at that time such expensive items belonged in glass cases with a "please do not touch" sign attached.
But I have to keep reminding myself that I bought him not just so he can sit on a shelf to collect dust, and if I'm constantly tip-toeing around him it's really not much fun.

Loved that. Too funny! I don't have a BJD as yet. Closest thing I have to something like those is my MT's. I seldom take mine outside honestly because the sun is so strong here it can actually do damage in a very short time. But when I first got her I did take my new WW from Tonner with me to the craft store and then to Tuesday Morning and you should have seen the fuss she caused! Every one wanted to know what kind of doll she was and why she was green. I didn't even think to take any pics though. I should have. Me being Ms Photographer and all you'd think I would have thought about it, but not, unfortunately...

I'm glad you had so much fun. I love taking my dolls outside with me! My two irl doll friends and I bring ours with us to the movies and get them one of the booster seats... though once in a while, one of the 1/4 kids will sit in a cup holder. I'm paranoid about sticky ickies in the cup holders though, so it doesn't happen unless I have a few napkins to line it with first >.> We also take them to the park, the mall, various restaurants (including Panera, Olive Garden and Steak n Shake) and we hold our local meet-up in an IHOP, in their conference room. We're now known faces, and they call us the doll people.

My favorite was when kiki-chan was here, and we managed to get 13 dolls suspended in a little decorative tree. You can't see the last one in this picture, but it's a tiny Hujoo Suve clinging to some little twigs.

I make it an important point to keep my boys far away from water... after all, we all know that it's such a bad thing.











Nor have I ever encouraged others to do such dangerous things to their dolls.







Dolls in trees is far too dangerous for our delicate little darlings. Seriously, who in their right mind would do something like that?









Then again, my crew have such shy and retreating little personalities that they never leave the house. The only thing they do is sit on their shelf looking pretty.

















As for transporting them? Well, they travel first class all the way.









So yeah... never gotten any strange looks, or anything weird, since my crew rarely leaves the house. ^.~
