Someone I found online was kind enough to give me an invite to DOA when I ran across a mention of her Long Island BJD Meetup group (I messaged her saying how I would love to finally meet some doll people around here and was pleasantly surprised when she sent me an invite!) ^.^

But other than the Meetup thread, I haven't found DOA that useful for me. I've been on that forum for months now and have only managed to make a grand total of.... 4 or 5 posts, I think? I was told before that that DOA is basically the "Holy Grail" of BJD forums, but after trying to jump in somewhere over there and being too nervous to speak up for not wanting to get banned and lose my access to meetup info, I really do agree with all the above posts: DOA is for the "Doll Collector", not the "Doll Enthusiast" (as in "I am so enthusiastic about my kids that I want to make fantasy clothes for them and run awesome ongoing photostories and collect little plastic dolls to be their minions and feature them in those stories and...!")

I've also found the DOA "Search" tool useless in finding what I want to find. Anyone else? I'm glad there are so many nice people on here who understand that site for those of us that don't ^.^*

At Home: Little Ari (Resinsoul Mei), Gilan (Resinsoul Song), Mina (Jun Planning Ai Cosmos), Yukiko (5StarDoll Tong Tong), Julia (Hujoo Yumi), Lion'a (Hujoo Suve), Ella (Jun Planning Hestia Isora), Mint (Fairland Pukifee PongPong, "unnamed thus far" (Hujoo Nano Freya)
Wish List: Delf Ani, Resinsoul Yun/5StarDoll Angelo (f.), Island Doll Emily, BJD Hamster pet

DOA is okay by me. I agree with or at least understand most of the opinions people have stated about DoA on this thread. For me, DoA's virtues outweigh their problems. I can find a lot of information I need there, mostly on the sewing and meetup forums. Because of how big DoA is, I get that they want to limit topics due to size restrictions. The size also means that I can be in contact, IRL, with about 30 other BJD collectors several times a year. The sewing forum is big and generally friendly and helpful - that's important to me too. The thing I keep in mind is that it is a privately owned site (just like DS). The owner/s make the rules and I can play by them or go away. Mostly that is okay by me because there are also awesome places like Dollieh Sanctuary, Junkyspot, Flickr and DeviantArt to hang out as well. DoA doesn't have to be the end all and be all of forums for me.

Where you need to go is down to the Workshop area of DoA and, in particular, the sewing section. Delbelcoure, myself, Victoria Victrix, and ooooodles of other people tend to hang there and you can learn soooooooooo much about making things for your dolls! Honestly, outside of the marketplace and the News that is the only part I hang out in at all - but I do stop there daily to see if any new cool stuff has been posted to help me make things ;) I think if you give that area a try you'll find those Enthusiasts that you are looking for - there is an entire thread, in fact, dedicated to fantasy clothing!

How did DoA ever get this much power in the online BJD-world..? I truly wonder. It's not like they.. deserve it.

They're huge! For someone looking to find out more about resin bjd's they're a good one stop resource. I usually recommend DoA and junkyspot to new people.

Yes, but... did they get huge despite their **** mods or did they start modding anally after they got huge..?

Maybe some of both? I've only been active there since maybe spring of 2010 regardless of my join date stamped under my avatar there, apparently I made an account in 2006 probably to look at something someone linked to me (I had no idea what BJDs were back then), got hit by the account registration delay, and forgot / never went back until entering the hobby in 2010. Tried signing up with my usual username, found it taken, tried logging in with usual passwords and wah-lah... I had a 4 year old account that looks even older now. ^^;;

If it's a size issue, like too much bandwidth, I wouldn't have minded donating some moolahs towards keeping the forum running well... key words: wouldn't have minded. The way the mods behave (okay, certain mods, there is at least one who is a whole lot nicer and more realistic) they've kinda shot themselves in the foot on that one... for me, anyways.

ooooooooooooooooook - I think we've hit the maximum limit for DoA discussions. I know, I know, no one is exactly "bashing", but we are heading down the negativity runway and while I acknowledge their faults I do prefer to keep on their happy side as a "complimentary" forum to theirs. So before the "DoA sucks Because" airline takes off I'm going to blow out the wheels :)

Don't ask about the wierd metaphor, it's been a strange day at work.
