That's what I was told o.O It didn't make sense to me, since sculpy and fimo are supposed to be good for kid projects and it seems odd for a parent to buy a dedicated toaster oven just for a possible one-time use.... maybe oven cleaners take it off?

I haven't had a problem... that I know of? It's not really messy, or fumey. Huh, this is news to me. Well, I'm not buying a sculpy-specific oven lol :P I clean off the baking sheet I put the sculpy on anyway. You'd think if that was a real issue it'd be on the packaging, so I'm not sure how much I believe it.

Awe jeeze, migraines... *knocks on wood that she never experiences one* I've heard Excedrin + coffee+ hot shower are supposed to help.

In my case, hot herbal tea, and a short nap in absolute blackness and silence helped immensely.

Yeah supposedly the polymer clays leave behind a residual film of chemical... I'll see if I can find some of the pages I was reading about it. Honestly, it's the only thing stopping me from sculpting stuff. I have this awesome dragon mask thingie I made and I've been keeping it in a tupperware until I can bake it.

They look really nice. :) Have you considered covering one in fabric?

Could always try an air dry alternative like milliput or green stuff - you mix the two components together to form a putty, sculpt it and it slowly hardens over 24 hours.

Milliput is much more like clay than green stuff - which feels like trying to mould chewing gum!

PS Awesome venetian style masks! (Wish I had the patience to work out how to sculpt such thin sheets)

I do have some air drying clay, but I worry it may end up being brittle. I hope to do more this week.

Crayola air dry clay (the stuff intended for kids, I think?) feel kinda polymer-y. They take a while to dry in thick layers, but they're light, doesn't make too much of a mess, and would do fine getting dropped on the floor. They also work nicely for miniature sweets.

milliput is a little brittle but less so than actual clay (heck you can even use water to smooth surfaces when it's still soft and people use it to make models and do diy seals), green stuff isn't brittle at all, it sets into an ever so slightly springy plastic-like state. Draw back being I can't seen to get anything too complicated out of it, but tbh I've never been a v.good sculptor!

Edit - yeah both are epoxy putties, different formulas though I think

They all look really nice! I especially like the black and gold one. I've heard about the sclupey oven thing too, but I think it's only if you burn it, that the fumes are released? But, make sure that the tray you baked it on, isn't used for anything else food related.

This was something I had bookmarked about safety: http://www.theartfulcrafter.com/tips-four.html

But hopefully OkaamiKodomo is able to find her pages, I'm sure they have some more information. :D

Thankfully I'm on top of it and use the recommended time. Though I have put the sculpy on baking sheets I use... but they get washed throughly. huh. Kinda wish these things were on the packaging.

I think the next one I make will be molded from Dana's head, hopefully I do it before the week ends.
