I managed to find a hurricane lamp in our shed. With oil and a wick! Woo! Old owners left behind some weird things, not complaining about the lamp though. We're as set as we can be and just praying Irene isn't such a raging hormonal witch that she'd get stronger again.

Made one last trip to the store and saw everyone grabbing perishable food. Like what? We're gonna be without power for awhile, why are you buying a frozen pizza and meat?

You can make storm shutters with cargo pallets and discarded carpet.

In a pinch you can make them from the old carpet alone.

give me a minute here. I have to marvel at how my friend, in the same area as me, cannot comprehend why I'm taking this so seriously. You're in an apartment, whatever get damaged is not your responsibility. I'm in a house, it's all on us to take cae of damage - even with insurance. We prepared bugout bags in case we have to leave our house after the storm; apparently we're overreacting. I really can't believe how much of a non issue this is for her and others. I just... bluh! Sorry guys.

But yeah, we are has prepared as we can be. I hope everyone else is prepared for the worst and hopefully the worst does not happen.

catshem- It's always good to be as prepared as possible. Weather has a habit of being unpredictable, and a hurricane certainly isn't a gentle spring shower. It's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. Stay safe!

Tornadoes have already touched down here, three times. One took out a house already >.> They said they didn't even have time to report it before it had done the damage and was gone.

Our power, once it's out is staying out for about 2 weeks, at least.

They can warn about tornadoes but they can't predict them happening. It's really scary. I don't even know where we'd hide in the house if one descends on us as I don't see us being able to get out to the craw space in time. I hope the people (if they were in it) are alright!

Bathtub. Always go for the bathtub or the interior of a room.

There are transformers blowing up all over my town. I think one of the neighborhoods just went out. Luckily we have our own grid but ours is getting flickery.

This will be fun.
