Poses

Postby animeangel09189 » Fri Jun 24, 2011 6:09 pm

so I guess this is my biggest question (and would make or break some decisions for me) I have some drawings of stick figures of the poses I'm talking about that I was going to post but will do that later)

Are there any BJD's that can do these poses (or are obitsu's the only kind of dolls that can?)
with knees up
hugging knees (like this http://westvalley.edu/pe/stretch/images ... xtend1.jpg)
leg up against wall arms crossed
sitting with one knee up (like the guy in black here http://animegirl4ever09189.deviantart.com/#/d3j2z4s)
and arms behind head

if you still need me to I'll post the stick figure people pic I had

S are there any BJD's that can do those poses with out gapping anywhre? (seems mini fees do here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epYslCnRt-w see that gap between the body and legs? -shudders-)

Er....Almost all if not all BJDs will have gapping because of the limitations of resin. Resin is not like skin or fat. It doesn't stretch or squish. Mini-fees have some of the most amazing jointing with the smoothest joinings with very little gapping.

If you don't want gapping, don't get a strung resin BJD. You need to realize that it is impossible engineering wise to get the level of posing you want without sacrificing aesthetics. Personally I don't see a gapping problem with the Minifee. If you want your doll to have sculpted calves and a nice back thigh area, they won't be able to bend their leg as much as you want. But if you would rather they be able to bend their leg, get ready for some gapping and some oddly shaped legs.

An Obitsu or Dollfie Dream has no gapping because they have internal skeletons. Maybe look there? I don't currently own a bigger Obitsu but she is on her way. Certainly they aren't strung but I like them a lot and they are quite poseable.

Your asking a lot a BJD especially a strung BJD will have gaps and it's near impossible to go without it. Clothes can hide the gaps though. It's just how it's sculpted.

If you don´t like gaps take a look at Soom´s Rosette girls:

The Rosette girls are beautiful but I can already see that the OP will not like the gapping at the elbows. I think she wants a really smooth transition in the joints no matter how the doll is posed and it really just isn't possible. As far as I can tell the Minifee A line body and the Chicline body are one of the most poseable and beautifully engineered dolls out there. If there is a complaint of gapping with those, I don't know what to recommend other than non BJD dolls that are similar.

You'd have to put a fabric skin over the doll like a catsuit. My best mover has all sorts of gaps and looks funny naked.

After I sueded my DZ Chen he can do and hold any pose I put him in, including all of those. He does gap a lot but I rarely notice that since you can't see any of the gaps when he's dressed. I just makes sure his clothes cover the joints where that's a problem.

well addressing the other questions about the actual posing ability, there are quite a few BJDs that will do the poses. However there will be gaps.

Personally I don't mind the gaps. I also mod my dolls to pose the way I want so even if they don't do the knees up pose, they do now! I will post images when completely done. My RS dolls will do knee hug poses after modding.

I only know of *one* type of doll that can do all that without gapping. It's also expensive, and easy to break. Tokyo Doll (formerly known as Arte Tokio).

Not 'technically' a BJD, but they can use their heads. They are a silicon skin over an internal skeleton (it's not very strong). The doll is made for occasional posing, otherwise it will snap. The silicon will also start drying out over time, and need to be lubed up. Wish I was kidding.

60cm model is about $1,000-$800.
55cm model is about $1,000-$800.
40cm model is about $1,000-$700
27cm model is about $300-$200
25cm model is about $300-$200
11cm (1/12 scale) model is about $150-$90

Other then that, I'd suggest getting over the issue. The greater a range a doll has for mobility, the greater the possibility for 'gapping' is going to occur.

whoa....it;s crazy the obscure knowledge that pops up... Yeah I dunno about that kind of maintenance. I've also seen vinyl or rubber skinned 1/6 dolls and I don't like how bunchy the "skin" looks at the joints. They aren't as expensive as the arte tokio dolls but they do cost more than normal abs dolls.
