Ringmaster's Box Opening! (x-posted)

Postby Serif Balehawk » Fri Apr 01, 2011 6:37 pm

I'm SOOOOOO happy! My 60cm white skin Doll Leaves is HERE! This may sound weird, but he is my birthday present to myself. Now I can make Ringmaster the way he should be! Huzza! He's outside in a box drying, as he's already been washed and is not getting his first MSC bath.

So this HUGE box came today. For reference, here's our twelve pound cat.

Image

Image

Image
Ringmaster: I'M HERE I'M HERE!
Kiba: What's this? More clothing for me?

Image
Kiba: What was that push for?!
Ringmaster: It's MY box, get off.

Image
The amount of packing peanuts. I'm not joking. This picture is with the box empty of items. I've never SEEN these many peanuts before!

Image
THE LONG AWAITED BOX!

Image
Kitty, stop playing with those!

Image
The free stuff! I owe Emory a HUGE thank you for these. I was going to buy some MSC next week after I get my paycheck, but he sent me some! I'm still going to buy a can of the UV cut anyway, because I know I'm going to be using TONS of it in the dolls to come!

Also, Sarah my roomie thanks you for the cookies.

Image
Emory, handcuffs? Kinky.

Image
Gummy organs, a blue light thing, and the cutest hat you've ever seen ever! Here, let me show you why.
Image
It doesn't really fit anything though. I'll figure out something to do with it!

Image
The doll! How poetic, he's wrapped in purple. His jacket will be purple. It's amusing.

Image
Jointed hands! They look so good on him too! Note to others getting these, before you try to put them on, you MUST widen the S hooks. I fought and fought to get them on, and then wound up having to pry them open more to get them on. The jumpring that holds the elastic in the fingers is HUGE! It's super thick, so you need to widen the hook to get it on.

Image
The mummy, it lives!

Drum roll please!
Image
Isn't he just GORGEOUS?! He's so easy to pose, and stands like there's no such thing as gravity. Not much head range, but the fact that he can pose his arms and legs is a MASSIVE step up from my friend's doll that's been visiting.

There are a few problems though, with him. They don't matter much to me, because no one will see them or I'm not using them.
Image
Broken fingers. Oddly enough, there are three broken fingers, and I only found two of them. Doesn't matter to me because I'm going to use the jointed hands, so it's all good. I'm going to use these as practice fodder anyway.

Image
And a chipped elbow joint. Again, no issue for me if it's chipped or not. Ring'll have his jacket on. And even if he didn't, it's so small you really don't see it unless you look SUPER close to it. So it's all good!

Image
HE CAN HOLD THINGS! That's really really good for me, since he's going to have a walking stick that he's pretty much stuck too. Joy!

Image
He came with some really beautiful eyes too. A neat grey/blue.
Image

WHELP! That's the end of the box opening. And it's all you're going to see of Ringmaster until he's done too. So you're going to have to wait a while before you see anything of this one again. Sorry!

The posing is BEAUTIFUL! The arms and legs pose so nicely, he has great balance. My only confusion are his hips. His torso has a piece that locks into his hips, so they don't move even though they are two different pieces. Since he is a three-piece body, it seems a bit off. He has great posture, and his chest can swivel. I haven't played much with his movement though.

So awesome! I just recently got to play with some jointed hands. Can't wait to see him finished.

Is the stop in the hip section there to keep him where you put him? Is there a tab or section that it fits into - or possibly more than one? I know some dolls have very strong "holding" spots and you have to pull the joint out and then reposition it for full mobility.

He's full of "Tab A goes into slot B." Um. Here, I took a few pictures to show you what I mean.

Image
Hip joint. This is on the leg. It's a weird lip thing that goes into a grove inside when standing, and along the edge when sitting. It helps with his not falling over, but it catches when he's wearing pants and makes it hard to change his pose. Just a bit, once I get used to it it should be fine.

Image
Along the edge.

Image
The groove inside.

Image
His legs also remove from the hip joint and turn in a full circle. It has these tongue and grooves there too.

Image
There's one inside his foot. If I moved it out of his foot he would have come unstrung. He's VERY tightly strung. Snaps at my fingers a lot.

Image
The wrist of his jointed hands also has a tab with a slot that they fit into.

Image
And lastly his torso and hip piece. The chest piece/torso piece doesn't have one, just his hip and torso piece. It's weird. I'm sure it helps keep him from slumping when standing, just like the one inside the legs do. But it makes it a bit hard to bend him into some shapes. I'm thinking he's just SUPER tight, and after some playing with him he'll loosen up and become easier.

Looks like the joints are similar to the 20 cm Doll Leaves. My Fay's legs keep swiveling around backwards when I sit her down and stand her up. XD He's gorgeous.

Even though you're not concerned about the broken fingers you may want to let Emory know. If they're coming in to him broken I'm sure he'd appreciate a heads up. :D

I'll email Emory, it would be good for him to know if he's getting broken fingers in the mail!

OH! Mary! You have a Doll Leaves? How's the head range on yours? I can make my head turn to the side, but I can't tilt it side to side, nor back to front. It just twists and turns around the neck, but there's no tilting at all.
