Ah we used to do that all the time when I was in the Society for Creative Anachronism. A couple times a year we'd have the occasion for a few score SCAdians to crash with us, use the back yard for a training ground and generally party in garb all weekend. If you think wandering around with dolls made your neighbors nervous, try twenty or thirty Mongols.

Someone would always ask "Are you in a play."

Our answer was always a deadpan, "Why yes! West Side Story!" and break into "I Feel Pretty." In garb. With choreograpy.
All you damn kids get offa my lawn!

The neighbor right next door kept inching closer and closer to check out the three Harukas standing at the base of our tree under the guise of picking up some litter. He should have just asked, but I think he was scared to be interested.

It is weird. I have a van parked there that is fully decked out in football stuff and no one thinks twice about starting a conversation about that (except they usually think it is Highlander's until they see the tags and PINK flames).

I think the funniest expression was from the dude looking at the girls posing on top of the car like 'calendar girls'. :o :D

Hopefully we will get the pics posted soon.

LOL!

Honestly, I think just about anything else we could do would have earned less scrutiny or curiosity. Perhaps next time I'll casually observe that "PlayDoll" magazine won't pay for any nude work...but "DollHouse" magazine will, as long as we submit 5 reader's stories along with the pictures...

:?

Heheheheheheh! My husband and I totally know what you're talking about! LOL! We go everywhere with arm loads of dolls! (They usually take up the back seat of the car.....seat-belted in groups of four.....so we can fit 12 SD's in the back). On one photoshoot, we were having to go into a forest to get some good shots for a story, so we brought along a huge wheelbarrow to cart our dolls, props and horses in.....all down the hiking trail. People were looking at our wheelbarrow of dolly things and huge horses and walked on past with mega-puzzled faces as to what the heck we were up to.

When we "prop shop", we take along a couple dolls just to make sure that if we see something, that it is in scale to our dolls. We've had people ask what they were (and I've been tempted to say they're Canadian Moose, isn't it obvious? Heheheheheh!) and we explain what they are, where they come from, etc. You should see the looks on their faces when you tell them how much they cost! LOL! A Kodak moment for sure! But we have actually had a few people that were so interested in them that they actually got out pen and paper and jotted down some sites we mentioned.

It's a mixed bag as far as responses to the dolls. But you know what? Who cares! Everyone has a hobby and something that they love to do. So do what you love and enjoy it. Freaking out neighbors is fun, too! Yeah? Oh yeah!

Freaking out the neighbors is always fun. As is arriving home with the windows down on the car and a CD of the theme songs from numerous Japanese anime shows thumping out loudly.... I'll have to try adding a half dozen of the girls belted into the back too...
