Help With a Sculpt

Postby Sixoclock » Mon Mar 07, 2011 6:13 pm

So my brother recently purchased this head on a whim as a gift for me -- but I have no idea what sculpt the head is. :?:

He purchased this head from an online used figure shop (so he says) and there was no other information aside from indicating it was SD size. I don't see any definitive markings on the head either -- well I can see "something" by way of inscription in the image of the inside of the head -- but I can't make it out.

Any thoughts?

I am still waiting for more information from my brother to see if there is anyway to contact the shop to see if they can offer any other information, or even what it says on the inside of the head.

My only other thought is that maybe it was a DIM Minimee order. :sigh:

Any help is greatly appreciated though!

Nope, not a DIM minimee - they are thicker resin and they use magnets, not the S-hook in the skullcap method (I have two so I can speak from experience). I wonder if it's some kind of privately made head - the face is almost a cross between anime and realistic. Very cute, whatever it turns out to be :)

It seems to be an older head. I might be wrong but it seems most places use magnets now. I do like how it looks with the tiny eye lids and puffy undereye. The epicanthic folds in the inner corners don't seem very common in BJD heads. I like that this head has very Asian looking eyes.

@ Greyhaunt - Good to know. I have only had 1 DIM head, but it was so long ago, I don't really remember. Thanks for the info! :3

The sculpt also reminds me of an artist I watch on DA (YumeDust). It has the feel and slight appearance of a lot of her older characters. It also kind of reminds me of some of the heads created from 3D rendering.

>_> I really wish there was a site with literally every BJD head sculpt. I know it still would lack many private artists, but it would still be neat and I would certainly spend the time to neurotically page through it in search. :3

It's a very nice head. There are a lot of BJD companies that have come and gone, so it may be from an extinct company.

Weeeeeeellllllll crap. =_= Truns out my bro"bought" this from Mandarake. But basically when you "purchase" something from the site, they let you know that they will let you know within 3 days if the item is actually still in stock. If it is, they send you info on full price with shipping etc. and you actually pay.

Turns out the head was already sold. Crud. D:

I'd still LOVE to find out what sculpt it is though, cause I really think it's super cute.

I'd say that makes it even more likely to be a privately made sculpt. Bummer he missed out on it - but nice of him to think of you like that :) *greyhaunt aims a kick at her own brother who is in japan and never sends her dollieh things*

That head looks familiar the more I look at it. Does anyone here have a copy of BJD Orbyrarium handy? I have one, no idea where it is, though. There is a section that lists different doll manufacturers and I'm thinking I remember seeing a similar head there.
