So, the new 50cm is here, along with a Megu head, large 50cm bust and 60cm abdomen for my frankendollieh experiments.
This post is picture heavy.
I should note before proceeding that after asking lots of questions and listening, I plunged right in with some cuts. In the end, I kinda wish I'd waited another 24 hours and read my PMs...alas, I was too late with the PM reading to save my 60cm abdomen from my aggressive cuts... In the end, the back still doesn't work, and I trimmed far too much off the piece. K2's amazing work that he shared with me in PM is definitely the way to go, so Shion (the new girl's name is Shion) will have a second Operation before long. Still, I do like the overall look and line of the result, and even with the flaws in my workmanship, it's still a nice looking dollieh.
Anyway, on with the show...

And so it begins, time to take everything apart...
I also removed the neck piece by unscrewing it. I find that easier than softening the vinyl and doing the push pull thing, just don't do it too often, plastic doesn't like being mashed up by the screw's thread.
Intersting differences in eye pockets. The default head is much easier to put eyes in, thanks to the cut out in the eye 'pocket'. A pity that the Gretel heads don't have this.
It's a pity that the Megu head also lacks the cut out to facilitate easy eye installation and removal.
Before the surgery, let's like everything up for a comparison.
There will be some trimming at the top of the 60cm abdoment. Little did I know how much - The Highlander is a wee bit heavy handed...
Mariko is rightly concerned about the whole procedure.

There does seem to be an awful lot of vinyl missing. I was trying to trim it sufficiently to prevent the back folding inwards, I tried relief cuts and they did no good, so I was trying to trim it as low as I could in an effort to reduce the way the back was folding inwards. K2's solution is a v-shaped cut in the middle of the back that is then glued back together to change the shape of the upper end of the torso to match the bust piece and skeleton. A much sounder approach than my one of simply hacking at it until it's done. Ph well, I have to learn sometime.
Let's put the body back together, where did those arms and legs go? Ah, here they are.
And now, with her head precariously balanced on the neck - without the neck piece until she's got a face-up...Mariko is shocked by how much the little girl has grown.
Oh My! She says, and covers her new cleavage...
Mariko says "Girl, you've lost your head! "
Mariko can't quite figure it out, but she thinks the surgeon might have cut too deep...
The surgeon did cut a little deep...
Finally, here she is, face-up still to be done, and wig carefully bagged up for now - Shion!

Now as for those eye-pockets, personally I take an exacto knife to mine right away and always cut slits in them to make insertion easier! As for the slicing you did do - well, I commend you for the efforts - I am personally a chickenshit so I do my best to never have to trim anything on my dolls LOL.
