If you're going to watch any storm coverage make sure it's legit local news sites or storm chasers who are here. A lot of YouTube video thumbnails make it look catastrophic.
Outside of some localized urban flooding, clogged drains and intersections, and the usual spots in the mountains it's just another storm. The Salton Sea is man made from a flood, it's designed to be a big old drainage pond.The mountain areas they show, they're creek beds that flood every time there's decent rain, that's why the news crews are set up there. Look at a satellite map and you can see the riverbeds. We have places we stay out of when it rains for a reason.
