I ordered Acetate hair for Dyna and little Denia (reroots still pending, because I Am SLOOOW) because it was the only option to get a color close to what I wanted. It feels weird in the package, like some kind of crinkly fake easter basket straw, and looked kind of like some sort of odd yarn. Then I noticed the ends of some of it 'untwisting' into thinner fibers in the bag. I'm guessing it's just made/sold in twists and brushes out once rooted? That would make a big change in the look and texture. I'd love to hear any advice for working with it before I start on those jobs.

Thanks, Jobee-- it's all practice. (And a high tolerance for repetition.) Each one looks better than the previous one.

Whitedove -- I will get some photos this weekend and slap together a tutorial. Yes, Acetate does feel weird and stiff in the bag, and yes, it is stranded like embroidery floss, and for the most part, acts like embroidery floss. The stranding is what makes it easy to work with -- nylon and Saran clump, but they're not stranded. Once acetate is glued into place after rooting, it must be (gently) brushed to un-strand it. It looks like hell in process -- spiky and stiff with kinks from being crimped while in the needle -- but once brushed, then spritzed with water and combed, it looks and feels like supple, well-treated hair.

I had written more, but the server choked on it, which I think means it wants me to not be verbose here. So, tutorial on acetate on Monday/Tuesday.

I was kind of hoping that was the case. One of the biggest learning curves for me in rooting so far has been consistently measuring the right amount of hair for a hole.

Thank you so much! I'll be watching for it! (I have a full 38 inches of the stuff in Robin's Egg Blue XD)

The first part of the tutorial is up. Tools, Materials, Tips and Tricks is up now here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11042&p=127779#p127776

Sorry it's late; things have been grumbly here with looking for a house, getting this one ready to list, it's been raining and raining and raining (and this is a weird May for us), and there's actually a local doll meet this weekend, so I'm trying to get at least some of the kids faced, dressed and haired. But finals are over, my flock of undergrads are Not My Problem anymore, and my grad students are off gaining valuable practical experience being unpaid coffee fetchers and filers, meaning I may get some work done in the next few weeks.

Working on Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. One of my fave characters from the anime. I am amused that Jack looks pretty okay with those nekomimi (until i can get fox ears), kinda had him slated as Younger Toguro for his height over Megu-Chun (as young Genkai). As for Hiei, I have to find a wig.

I'm arbitrarily downsizing http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lazy-wheels-coat by using a 3.5mm crochet hook and sport-weight yarn. I have five wheels finished and it looks like it's going to be 1/2 the original pattern size(based on wheel diameter). I still want to finish it, though, and see exactly what size it ends up.

Kya got her face today, and Rien got hers rebuilt (because I'm an idiot, she got dirty, I rubbed too hard. Dammit.)

No progress pics because it rained an inch today, so I had to take the girls to the make space to use the spray booth. It's kinda nice working in a social space, though I was there alone most of the time, but the hauling of stuff is annoying.
