...Yea I'm really not sure what the BBCs motivation for editing the episode was, but the cynic in me doubts that it had anything to do with sympathy...
I'm really glad everyone else on here seems to like series 8 as much as I do right now! Though if I'm totally honest I think most of that is down to Capaldi himself - I've got to admit I've rewatched Into The Dalek far far too many times to be healthy just for his performance... He's quietly mesmerizing, especially the scene where he first spots the Dalek and his facial expression turns from cynical amusement to downright horror with no noticeable muscle movement in between...
(Though gods I've also re-emersed myself into The Thick of It/In the Loop... Gods I'd forgotten how strangely likeable Tucker was as the only competent man in the british government, even though he was an f star star c*** Argh series 4 is just painful to watch though, in a good way, not a bad TV way! I've even managed to stumble across an epic dystopian fanfiction set post the opposition/arrest...)
From everything I've heard about Listen... It's going to be divisive, and either amazing or rage inducing... I just hope it's up to the standard that Moffat's earlier work reached - cos when that man is good he's very very good, much as it pains me slightly to admit that! (Just a shame about the borderline/casual sexism - Irene Adler/Mary Morstan I'm looking at you ¬.¬ )
