I admit it, there are times when some scientist or another has been worrying about things like solar flares that might knock off the internet and phones, and I kind of sit there and hope for it. While I know that it would hurt some things, all I can think is how much it would help people get outside of themselves just for a short while.
People tend to be self-centered by nature, and modern technology amplifies it. It kind of gives us permission to be the center of the universe.
Of course, every time I start to think that I'm the center of the universe, my cat will come and sit directly on my face. He just wants to remind me that I'm wrong and my only purpose is to be part of the furniture. Then everything is placed back in proper perspective.

I live with the center of the universe who had to remind the rest of us we're not as "special" as she is yesterday. We were also without internet for a couple of days because the router went out. I didn't have any messages or anything to suggest I was digitally missed.

Sun flares are a reality, yay astronomy class, but I don't think it will be the complete electric grid doom and gloom the History Channel would have you believe. It can disrupt signals and cause glitches but the world won't explode, bless the Van Allen radiation belt. There are storm caused black outs all the time in America and society doesn't crumble.

Currently I'm using social media (FB) to display my school projects to my family. I don't know why, I just feel I always have to be constantly proving myself.

Post them because your proud of your achievements and because you enjoy them. Don't worry about proving yourself to others. Life's too short to have to be proven to other people.

In other news I find it almost bizarre that friends who have not spoken to me in months are suddenly private messaging me and being best-buddy like, and only because I have an account again. Let's hang out!Come play games with us!
While it's nice to catch up, it's still kind of odd.
Maybe it's true: some people don't count you as a friend unless you can be friends on FB.

The big lesson to take away: remember to have real life contact with people, don't just rely on web pages. Especially remember that not everyone is stalking you on the internet, and if you want someone to be somewhere with you, then you should probably personally invite them. If you want them to know something then make an effort to actually contact them.

Hopefully I never forget this myself.

To paraphrase many of the people who post to my feed, "Don't worry about proving yourself to other people, true friends will like you for who you are".

I know where the feelings of wanting to prove oneself to "friends and family". I also feel I will get better feedback from places like the doll board. I still post the occasional finished project I'm proud of but I also remember these are people who put the graveyard scene from the book I wrote on my birthday cake. There is no graveyard scene.
