Resprayed car finished about a week ago - just been too lazy to get any photos...

Finally attempting (several months after receiving them) to string the Soom kit hands... Ermahgerd... It's the most frustrating thing I've ever done (including failed science experiments) - after about an hour of woe I've managed to string a grand total of 1 thumb and 1 finger... Sooo compared the Soom hand and strings directly to my Dikadoll pair. Realised 2 things:

1) The Soom channels are far too narrow for the elastic they supplied - the Dikadoll channels are fatter and the elastic is thinner

2) The Dikadoll hands are better anyway... better range of sideways motion in the fingers

Though ye gods I pity the people who strung them/dread having to restring them - the wrist joint on the Dikadoll hands attaches directly to the fingers using the elastics - it's a massive bundle of knots, each finger has an individual bit of elastic  ...at least the Soom hands are one v.long bit so it's only the one knot to contend with... (Theoretically if I ever finish this.) I decided to co-string them with jewellers wire which (on the two successfully strung digits) works wonders for stiffening up the poses - making them pose more steadily than my Dika pair in the half-bent motions. But because the elastic is just too fat they're not v.good at straight poses

That sounds rather hellish, Vetinari!! I can imagine that tiny elastic would be difficult.

Drat! The silk was way too small for me to crochet with. So I ordered some size 30 that could get to me by Tuesday. Fingers are crossed.

How small is your smallest hook? I just got a set of Clover Soft Touch and they go down to .5 mm for size 100 thread.

It is not the hooks. I am not good enough at tiny crochet to crochet it yet. :(

I crochet Richi a new wig. Wool gets dirty so fast.

After much swearing managed to "thread" the elastic through the jewellery wire and use that as a needle. (In reality the jewellery wire was stabbed through the elastic about 1/4cm from the end of the string) The Soom hands are now on my DZ72 body, ironically they've got a better range of motion at the wrists than the body's actual hands... And the wiring means they hold poses wonderfully - if only I'd dare restring the Dika hands!

I love the idea of using jewelry wire. Makes me want to attempt that for Vargas' hands. They're always splaying about every which direction.

Hi! by richila9098, on Flickr
Yellow dress got done in size 40.
Now working on bodice for Capt America cosplay. A size 30 Cebelia came in yesterday and it is very close in size to the 40 that I have been using. The color is perfect and I will probably use it for the Indigo dress in the rainbow of dresses that I am crocheting for Richi.
So far, Richi has red, orange, yellow, blue and violet. :D
