Iwa_Hoshi: :D Yeah I adore how much 1/6 stuff is available - between the "girly" ranges and the action figure ranges you can find pretty much anything you could think of.

(What kind of barrel? Evilbay has plenty of metal drums of various kinds at 1/6 scale but nothing wooden)

Iplehouse... One day maybe! Fortunately so far my BJD characters haven't been hunks (though Tedros... drool)

Dollykim: Hah yeah true the internal skeleton is design is brilliant - gah it really is interesting/fun (no idea what the right word is here... um) to wonder how Hot Toys would choose to pull off something that big. Though I'm more imagining the mechanics of it than the headsculpts.

Yeah it's odd, but I collect 1/6 guys and BJDs for slightly different reasons. The 1/6 guys are often hyperealistic versions of characters I love, that happen to be popular enough to be readily available on the open market... (And are often for acting out my inner child!)

Whereas the BJDs are more like idealised versions of my own characters or sometimes other people's characters if they're significant enough to me. So far that's a v.exclusive list of His Lordship, a Bowie Incarnation, The Doctor, and Nick Rush (And yea I was shocked by now quickly that character became important and all the odd coincidences that meant I could put him together as quickly as I did O.o) ...and hopefully someone from ROB's imagination; probably Dr Franknfurter at some point.

Edit: Actually my main stumbling block for finding my Frank sculpt has been the devilish smirk that's just ...him. He doesn't need to resemble Tim Curry (perhaps fortunately - I somehow think he'd be a pretty impossible likeness to find!) but he needs that touch of evil/childish glee that all the best Franks have had

A very interesting post Vetinari. I had to really examine why I buy what I do beyond "derp because I want it!". Usually it really does just boil down to that, but I have a lot of projects in place in the 1/6 scale that basically fit your BJD reason as well. It's mostly other people's characters (*anime nerd*) that I like enough to want a character of that the companies don't touch for whatever reason. (I've come up with the conclusion that figure companies market out of a hat. I see so many characters that I just think "...really?" Not out of my own perceived popularity but because...they're not popular period.) I've seen some amazing character mods done out of BJDs too. :D I think it more depends on what people want out of a doll. The 1/6 scale hobby can be just as money-sucking sadly. I've also seen some amazing BJDs! IOS's new Levi sculpt is a perfect "well there ya go" combination of what would normally be in 1/6 (and it is...1/6...1/12...nendoroids...this damn fandom has it all and then some, and I'm not even in it to enjoy the spoils! ) but has been made for the BJD crowd. Also, that Loki BJD. I want. And will never own.

Now I want to find a FranknFurter sculpt!!

Thanks! I've definitely got my fair share of "I want it" things lying around! The Monster High line immediately comes to mind... And I bought my figma of Lelouch before I'd seen the anime...

Hrmm I know my "not-my-character" BJD reason is weirdly specific isn't it? I mean I do also collect figures/figurines in the various smaller than 1/6 scales if they're excellent representations of characters that I like/love - such as the figuarts line, figma and various odd bits from Neca. But it really has to be something or rather someone special to make it up to BJD status. Though there is the occasional BJD in the "my character" group where the doll definitely came first! :?

(You could probably kitbash a 1/6 Loki fairly easily - there are usually people selling parted out Hot Toys and other 1/6 bits, you could get the headsculpt and pop it onto a relatively cheap body, that is how I put together my 2 "civilian" Tony Stark/Loki figures and kinda what I intend to do to Clonobi - only in his case it'll be a body upgrade)

I have a fixed pose Frank N Furter somewhere. From what I remember it's not the greatest sculpt in the world.

I know the feeling with feeling particular about the 1/6 guys. If I get around to it I need to put Stephan McGann on a different body, the BBI 3.5 is too broad and bulky for him. It might mean redoing his face-up after using heat to get the head off the neck but all he needed was brown eyes and black hair so no big. I got in to making them to get what I want and I'm still not happy.

Mmmm, if I'm getting Loki in 1/6, I'm going whole hog and getting that disgustingly priced yet gorgeous Hot Toys fullset. Okay, I know it's not disgustingly priced, I just don't have the money. My eyes are getting too big for my head. I've got a figuarts on preorder set to come in, and the damn Attack on Titan Medicom and figmas are just...their release dates are horribly close together. I know I'm going to end up watching the anime and being as horrifyingly into it as everyone else, so I figure on parting with some wicked scalper price later when I finally bite the bullet.

I've got you beat! I own Lelouch and Suzaku and STILL haven't seen the anime! And Killua! And...a lot more than I'll admit to!

Overall I think 1/6 scale is my comfort zone for character sculpts, if only because...the space! If every BJD company started getting licenses to make guys like Levi or they don't and you get Discount!Sebastian (I'm so sorry IOS Osiris, you're gorgeous but you know it's true!), my house would look like what I imagine the next-gen mouth-breather's house is going to in fifty years, when your toy of choice is just a 3D print away.

Come to think of it...*invests in some 3D printing companies*

...Well possibly not the psycopathic alien! Mebbe just the actor? Please?

Drat talking of Want... Made the mistake of looking at Re-ment on Evilbay... Drool seriously if I had the cash to throw away I think I'd buy a load of the complete boxed sets and have the ultimate bar/kitchen/party place for the 1/6 guys.

Eep good luck with the barrel hunt! The Hobbit idea sounds brilliant!

Dollykim: I've seen that Rocky Horror set - sadly they go for silly money nowadays if you want all 3 with the exclusive version of Frank (And of course you'd want all 3 and the exclusive cos Frank looks less bizarre) despite the less than stellar sculpts!

I think in terms of Stuff the 1/6 guys are the easiest to collect for, and by default they're the most spoilt! If I like the sculpt enough it inevitably ends up being given a blank Hot Toys body (and yea that's getting expensive... :? I should really investigate the clone bodies out there). There's just so much stuff available it's difficult to not just continue the line of "What does he need?" to ridiculous points... Both Tony and Loki have unnecessary little animal companions and I caught myself contemplating some Mad!Expensive props for them... Not to mention Loki is complaining that since Tony has both the Iron Man suit and a Ducati he needs something other than his magic for travel... :?

MeltedCaramel: Hah yes I have Evil Plans for my friend's 3D printer if he ever manages to get the thing working!

Totally understand the "buying before it gets expensive" mindset, though I do usually not always reserve it for fandoms I know! I was disappointed when I noticed the epic price hike for the Square Enix line of playarts though... My Sora and Roxas were both ~£25 new, nowadays the new figures start at £50! And I've not noticed any massive equivalent quality jump. So I've gone off that range... I've been quite good at not buying Figmas recently too - though mostly cos they have licences for things I've not managed to see yet!

Hrmm yea sadly 2nd Batch Loki is kinda ...sh*te. He's more expensive than 1st Batch Loki, yet has less stuff. His sculpt looks more like Chris Eccleston than Hiddleston ...dunno what happened there! Though if you ever find an Avengers Loki for cheap and happen to have the cash I'd say go for it! So Much Stuff! (His daggers are scary tiny - I keep most his set sealed in the box he came in cos eep that stuff could vanish so so quickly!)

Yea I agree/think whats available has definitely influenced what I go for in terms of BJDs vs 1/6s - with BJDs it's usually a case of "which sculpt suits this character" rather than the 1/6 scale thing of "Ermahgerd! This looks nothing like Mark Hamill!" approach that the 1/6 guys get. Underneath the paint my Lord Vetinari BJD is actually a Tom Hiddleston sculpt  Then again my Bowie BJD is actually Bowie sculpt... He was all lined up to be a Sabik but then the Bowie sculpt happened! And Sabik became scifi!Elf!Bowie! Eh I dunno I suppose I'm probably fairly fickle with my collecting hobbies! :|

I don't want one. When I find him, I think I still have him, I want to part with him.

On the good side of things Mark McGann's head came off. It's sitting on the footless Neo Goh but I'm going to need to find something for him with a long neck. I need to find where I put the 2009 Ken I want to reroot and see if that will work. Not the best thing in the world but more in tune with who he is.

Oh wow, your friend has a 3D printer? I would adore working with 3D technology to create some artist dolls. *Wipes drool from side of mouth*

Ahem, anyway. Hmnn, the Play Arts line, the only one I own is Roy Mustang and...to be honest I wasn't too happy with him. :? My friend that owns Ed told me his sculpt is weirdly mature looking. I think their anime figures are pretty miss. Although I want Garrus and Shepard like BURNING. Their realistic/fantasy sculpts are so gorgeous! I can see why you bought Sora and Roxas. ;) Figma right now, besides the whole Medicom/figma Attack on Titan problem I'm having, isn't really putting out anything I want. I do want Archer and Makoto, but neither of them have a definitive release date yet, and in the case of Makoto we've only seen a preview. I'm really loving the body though, the original figma male base is kinda...meh. (Man boobies!) Out of curiousity, what figmas do you own? :D

Oh, wow, wait, I didn't realize Loki had already been released in two batches. I'm not up to date on this! Do you happen to have a picture of the second batch Loki (also, closeup of crappy headsculpt? That drives me insane when an actor-specific character doesn't look like said actor :? ) by any chance? I'm really curious what the differences are, especially since if I do get him, I want the original first batch, most definitely.

Do you have pictures of your BJDs up on here Vetinari? I can't say I remember ever seeing your guys!! :(
