Damn sudden realisation that even Without any serious traumatic stuff/bullying school really f*cked me up just cos I was a girl - so leadership traits = bad, knowing more maths than boys = bad, etc... Just damn. I'm now furious about what i've remembered...

I don't know if it'll help but I'm reading a book called Female Masculinity http://www.amazon.com/Female-Masculinit ... asculinity that doesn't seem to have a problem with strong women. I've been told my brain and way of thinking isn't so feminine so I've embraced it.

Public schools are meant to prepare the masses for things the masses will do to the detriment of those who are meant for something different and something more. I just take my Repressitall and... Your avatar makes me wonder how long it's been since Taffy and Jareth came out of their boxes, poor guys.

I had a professor that didn't like the way I drew women. apparently the shoulders were too broad. she wasn't a drawing professor either. (I hate it when people go "usually X does not have Y)

Introduce that professor to me. I'm built like a linebacker. I have broader shoulders than most of the guys I know. Though I have the hips and butt to match lol

My own randomness... that this conversation made me think of... the other day, one of my employees was washing dishes and I stood up and reached for something with my back to her, and she looks at me and goes "Damn... Ika got a DONK" and when I looked at her, shocked, and simultaneously amused and apalled, she shrugs and goes "jussayin..." and another girl chimes in with "I know right! I keep tellin her she needs to donate a cheek!" And pats her own butt... ~facepalm~ which led to a tale of the time I was out with some girlfriends and one of them decided to set her drink on my rear.

She's called Hilda the pin-up girl, she stars in some of the most lovingly painted art work. If we weren't supposed to be soft and curvy why were we made that way?

even I have big shoulders, but I guess that's what you get with a fashion school and a borderline anorexic prof.

hah thanks DollyKim yeah public school doesn't help. But I think most of it was what my peers though was right/wrong behaviour for boys/girls. Actually no - the teachers were guilty of it too. Very much so. ¬.¬ (Now have a few more books added to my "will read" list.)

Ugh yea it's simultaneously frustrating, despair-inducing and heartening to know there are others raging against this - even though it obviously means there's still something Very Wrong with society. As someone pointed out to me the other day - when they debate racism issues on TV they don't get a racist to be the opposing view (obviously), and yet it's common to air the views of a sexist bigot on TV as though that's a perfectly legitimate stance to take...

(And unf since I've been thinking about it - the topic of sexism, feminism etc. has come up in discussion with male friends of mine. And once again dual reactions of pleasantly surprised and unpleasantly shocked. One friend who is a bit more conservative on his world-view of certain things than many of us in my group - turns out to be utterly in agreement with the fact that Women Are Human and Equal and is just as ragey about the current status quo as I am. The other who is "liberal" is actually invested in the patriarchy... And uses numerous scientific studies (sorry biology but I trust you as far as I can throw you - the data is too easily biased by the researcher's opinions) to support his view... But claims he is a feminist...)

I can see where every school incident that became a statistic can come from and will leave it at that. I left before it could happen to me and over came it.

Some times you physically have to tell the bad thoughts and feelings to go away. You can derail your train of thought, tell it all that stuff happened so long ago it no longer matters, forgive your ignorance, and hope the nay sayers are as miserable with their lives as they tried to make yours. Your life is certainly much better now and it can only get better.

I want to both a catholic private high school and a public high school. Both had their ups and downs, good teachers and bad. High school wasn't easy for me and I hated it. I think it was easier for me as a girl because I would have been picked on even more as a boy. I just reminded myself that it's all finished and I can't change it. I won't let those four years decide the rest of my life.

Also about body image, when I hear someone comment on a person not fitting their gender mold, I just say it takes both genders to make a human being.

I'll use any excuse to share this inspiring speech.
