Do they say they are half speed mastered recordings and/or pressed on 100% virgin vinyl? That would be the first clues to an audiophile pressing. While the higher gram weight is also a feature of audiophile pressings, the colored discs might have to be heavier (thicker) because the material isn't as rigid as normal vinyl.

From that description 2/3 of them are actually audiophile copies, with the 1/3 being uncertain. The 2 "audiophile" LPs are virgin vinyl, from "original master tapes" with "hand-mixed" coloured-vinyl blah blah blah... all paraphrased from "Music On Vinyl" - the manufacturer. I've no idea about the other LP, but from the timing of the release it's made from the same tapes as the near identical black LP release from the same period, probably at the same factory (actually they're all almost certainly the same factory, since these were UK releases and last I heard there's only 1 LP factory extant). Can you reuse transparent vinyl like that without it being obvious?

(Actually from a slightly snobbish review of one of the discs the mix on one of the LPs is an improvement on the original CD release at the very least...)

From the information on the Music on Vinyl site, it sounds like they do everything except half speed mastering. I'm still a little dubious about the durability/quality of colored vinyls, but I'm no chemist. I just have to go by what I've read.

Those kind of sound like "collector's" pressings. I've got a couple of picture discs like that.

Recycled into regular vinyl? Probably.

If it was a Music on Vinyl pressing that's understandable. They say they re-cut a lacquer master and then repress. That would give them a chance to "fix" any perceived short comings of the regular release.

I guess you could treat these vinyls like a fine vintage wine. You can keep them in storage, hanging on to them for their collector's value. Or you could sit down and have yourself one orgasmic audio experience. While they will still sound great for many playings, there will only be one "first" playing.

I used to have LOADS of colored and clear vinyl records - real popular collectables during the 80s before CDs took over.

Keep them away from sun, light and warmth (obviously in the case of the first and last). Depending on the quality they may, or may not yellow. Ugly yellow. Sort of like pee colored vinyl yellow. It's happened. Kept dark and cool they will do much better, but still may yellow. And they are playable. I've played my Ultravox clear vinyls, my Concrete Blonde blood red vinyl and my Planet P pepto bismoll pink vinyl among others. They sound just like the black ones. :)

Even after being in the doll community for awhile, I still think 'music' when I hear the word vinyl.
I'm mostly on Tumblr now.

Thanks! I'll think about it until New Year really, and then see if this ridiculous and slightly strange price bubble pops. To be honest, I bought them to listen to rather than collect, the colours were just a really nice bonus at the time - but then the prices went mad before I was in accomodation that could fit my record deck!

Well, looking in to the spacial impossibilities of the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining was a good thing, rooms don't line up with doors, windows are in places they can't be, where do some of the halls lead, where exactly is the ballroom? And interesting stuff about mirrors, doors, reflections, twins. Something gets out of the elevator with the blood. Then the theories get weird and all conspiracy.

Still though it makes the rewatching more interesting in trying to figure out all the pieces that make it so unsettling. Just where is the maze entrance?

*Maybe there isn't anything but blood as it was pointed out the shapes could be distorted reflections of the elevator doors and surrounding areas.
