Has this happened to anyone else?

Postby ivory stardust » Thu Sep 30, 2010 8:55 pm

I have a doll on layaway, a Blue Blood Waltz... I thought he was going to be this boy I am planning... then said boy informed me that this is NOT him. Joy. >.> So, ok, he'll be his own person.

I haven't had a name for him. Been waiting on him to tell me, like the others have. I've just been referring to him as Boy. Well, today as I am closing up at work, he tells me his name. Cool! But, as I was busy it was sort of like he said it in passing.

Now, I've forgotten, and I swear he's mad at me!

Has anything like this happened to anyone else? or am I just crazy? (Maybe I shouldn't have asked that last part...)

Nope, you're not crazy. XD

Several times, I carefully crafted out personalities and characters for incoming dolls, only to discover upon the dolls' arrivals that they had something else in mind. Heck, Tanja was originally purchased to become my interpretation of a female Medicine Seller. When she arrived, she decided otherwise.

As for forgetting names, I'm guilty of that as well. Now, I carry a little journal around with me to jot down interesting names/ideas that suddenly come to mind because I'm prone to forgetting things.

Resu - Glad to know I'm not the only one. Said boy (Quinn) has changed his mind about stuff 3 or 4 times... and he's not even here yet! ~headdesk~

VV - Hmmm... you DO have a point there.

Yes, yes and more yes! I've done that when creating RPG and story characters as well . . . I have a fanfic story in mind that I can't start because I FORGOT the main character's name!! Granted it came to me while I was driving to work a couple of weeks ago, but still . . . arg!

So - you are no crazier than the rest of us! LOL!

lol I keep a notebook filled with names. I'm always coming up with stories with characters that need them. Can't say I've ever forgotten any of them, though.

As for dolls, I just bought a B&G Nailo elf, because I thought he'd be great for my character the Shadow King. Well, he arrived ... and he doesn't fit at all. He's too colorful and his face isn't broody enough.

He told me his name is Jael, and he's now the guardian of another one of my dolls (LTF Dark Elf Soo). I should sell him, really, because he isn't who he was supposed to be and I don't have room for unecessary large dolls. But I like him too much! ^^;

I keep making a list of names for my two ladies who are on the way. One is a character doll but I don't "know" the character, so her name isn't grabbing me.

The other is my modern version of one of my favorite RPG characters, but I don't really want to name her KosMos. But the Japanese name for cosmos doesn't grab me either. Neither does names for "blue protector or guardian".

Then I have a head-only based on Counselor Troi done Asian-style, but again...no Japanese name inspiration to grab me yet.

I have a list of possibilities so I think the dolls will probably tell ME when they arrive. ;)

Kirah, I've had that happen with other names too. WHY do these things have to come to mind at the worst times? Yet, when you're just sitting there, perfectly open and able to write it down or focus enough to remember - nope, nothing... dial tone in the brain.

Stormlight, I had that too... this one was supposed to be Quinn, my "oldest". I put the doll on layaway, then a week later hear Quinn telling me, "He's nice... but he's NOT me." ~sigh~ Which is why I am now having to come up with who he is, because even though I really don't have the room for "unnecessary" large dolls either, 1) he's a gorgeous doll and 2) I am not losing the money I've already put into him.

Misheru, good luck with finding the right name. Frustrating, isn't it?

It happens. I've given up on trying to figure out who a doll is before he/she arrives. I might pick a name or two to try out, but often things don't work out and I end up changing name, eyes, hair, personality, and so forth. At this point I just let them arrive and the go from there.

I've only had a couple of dolls that have ever landed here who's preconcieved characters have stuck. It seems like once I start doing their face-ups they take on a life of their own-and half the time the face-up I had in mind for them doesn't even happen!! They really do seem to take over the creative process...the little creeps...:D

As for names...those usually seem to pop in my head while I'm working on them, so it's easier to remember. But I've had a couple instances where I know I can up with something deliciously clever for one of my boys at a weird time and it just...vanished...by the time I got home
