Just two words: Stories evolve. I'm speaking from experience here. The story my dolls' characters are from has been around for the better part of my life, I started "writing" it when I was 13. It's changed and morphed so much it's barely recognizable now (18 years later
), and while the characters retained their names and basic traits (sometimes not even that) and the general outline/setting remains, it's basically a different story. Some things can be toned down a little without changing the character all that much ... some things can be substituted with something a little less cliché.
What I'm trying to say is, don't beat yourself up over it. They're still your OCs, they're still your creations so yes, you are creative - they might be inspired by fantasy/general literature clichés, but maybe just see their current version/status as a starting point, and keep working with them. Characters have a mind of their own (especially the dollified ones *eyes her own*), they might just tell you where they want to go
