Asking the experts...is it Obitsu 60cm or Dollfie Dream?

Postby Misheru » Fri Sep 17, 2010 3:12 am

I have pics of a body that is advertised as an Obitsu 60cm but looks more like a DD to me. I don't care either way, but I wanted another opinion.

I know they had a Gretel head on it originally and it is supposed to be a newer body. I thought perhaps the elastic stringing would indicate an older DD body, but I have no idea. Maybe that is how they kept non-Volks heads on the body.

Knees and neck piece look like DD. WHat do you all think?

Also, medium/regular or large bust?

Thanks so much,

I would vote 'not' an obitsu. But i only have one 60cm ball joint obitsu and some mini obitsus.
Hazard a guess at medium bust.

Volks Dollfie Dream 2, large bust (possibly one of the after market soft types), probably normal skin (color temp can always fool ya). The head attachments for the DD2 and the Obitsu bodies are very different. The Volks has a very small hole for the little ribbed post seen next to the elastic (picture 3), while the Obitsu uses a much larger slot. The loop of elastic is used much like a conventional resin to attach the Gretel (or other Obitsu) head (not shown).

But that's just my guess.

I am guessing it is normal skin because she had a white skin Gretel head on the body.

Cool, I am learning then. I thought those were DD hips and knees and neck knob. I got a good deal either way, so I was happy whichever body it was.

Thanks for the input. :)

K2 - How do you tell DD2 bodies from the original strung ones just by looking? I am just curious. Thanks!

I have never had the privilege of examining a DD (version 1) up close and personal and it's been a while since I've seen a picture, but if memory serves the DD 1's have those same slots at the top of the leg, where they mate with the abdomen, as you see in most resins. This is of course where the elastic runs when the thighs are bent up for sitting and such.

Oh, okay. That makes a lot of sense. I wasn't sure how you would tell he difference or if it was even visible externally. :)

That's most definitely a Dollfie Dream. The neck connector is the dead giveaway. However, the elastic suggests this was used with a resin head. If you decide to use the body with a DD head you might want to remove the elastic. It was probably threaded up through the chest piece.

Thank you! I have an extra DD head, but the original owner had an Obitsu Gretel head on the body (maybe the reason for the elastic?). So I will also have the Gretel and I have a resin one too (if it matches, I think it will). So I guess it will be ready for whichever one goes on it. :)

I know there is a reference somewhere that says which resins match DD and obitsus, but I cannot seem to locate it today. *sigh*

K2: Yes, the DD1 has leg slots which is the easiest way to tell at a glance. If I get a chance, I would like to see some good images of a DD1 vs a DD2 taken, I have not found any as of yet.

Misheru: I though it was normal Volks to normal Obitsu originally, but I keep hearing mixed things about it. Do note the newer DD heads are attached using the post instead of the hook, but the older DD heads use the hook and are also made of a harder material.

Volks DD2 Normal Skin is a close match to Obitsu White Skin.

Can't help you with any of the evil resin colors. Although Cirquemom has a copy of every resin doll ever made except one (and Greyhaunt has that one). She can probably give you some help there.
