After the second night of near sleeplessness from coughing, my husband and I went to the doctor this morning. Fortunately they managed to squeeze us in because the waiting room was packed. We both have bronchitis. Yay ... One shot in the rear for me and 3 different meds (including my first ever inhaler). Jeff got 2 shots in the rear so I guess I can't complain toooooo much .... Woohoo.

That sounds like a terrible visit. I'm sorry. I don't blame you for being scared. I know nothing about diabetes except that people live great full lives with it, especially when they take of themselves. Keeping you in my thoughts.

Thanks I just got out of the hospital the other day (two days of education), and it's a lot better than I expected it to be. It's still frustrating because I have to be out of school until my 504 plan gets updated (I have one for my depression/anxiety). It was so sudden that I'm still having trouble processing everything. The needles aren't that bad at all! It's just kind of upsetting that I really have to think before I eat--"is this worth however many units of insulin I need to take for it?"

Kirahfaye- Bronchitis sucks, but hopefully the shots/inhaler mean you will be feeling a lot better very soon.
Jemlovecraft- It's tough, but you sound very brave and aware to me<3

Okay here goes, I'll try to keep it short. My (other wise healthy and active) Grandmother has had four trips to the hospital in the last month, her most recent two being for a surgery and an infection at the site. We *really* wanted her to go to rehab after her surgery but she refused. Now the infection is so bad she is in more pain than we she was before her surgery. I can't help but think that if we have made her goto rehab this wouldn't have happened. It is so hard to go against someone's wishes but we need her to get better. We are working with a social worker and we have decided that once they clear the infection she is going to rehab. She is not a sickly old woman, she is active and kick-ass. We are trying so hard to make her see we aren't "putting her away" but that this is what is best for this moment and it's only temporary. It is so "rock and hard place", but I love her so much I want her around for a long, long time. Furthermore, I wish I could say all this to her. She knows I love her but I don't want to seem like I am telling her what is best for her or like I know better. ::Sigh:: I know she is going to get better but...le SUX.

LiveLoveYarn, rehab can certainly be scary for someone up in their years because they normally have to stay at a nursing home for the duration of the rehabilitation. I know my (step)dad felt scared after his stroke, but my mom was there with him every day for most of the day so he didn't feel along. If your grandmother has family members who can visit daily, even if they have to do shifts, it would help her along both mentally and physically in the process. I only wish the staff would have allowed her to accompany him to his rehab sessions so she could have understood the process better when he came home and could have helped him more.

Thank you. She has me, my mom, and her best friend (like my other Grammie). Of course she has other friends, but some of them are older than her and/or in worse health. Her brother may come, too. Either me or my mom will absolutley be visiting her everyday. I really think once she gains just a little bit of strength (and weight) back and starts feeling really good she will realize that this was the best move and I hope she'll be thankful that we love her enough to make her do it even though she doesn' want to. Thankfully gaining strength is really all she needs to do and once she does that I think she'll be in the clear.

When we moved to a more rural county last summer we needed to find a new family doctor. We had been going to the same doctor for about 7 years. She knew all of my drug allergy issues and more importantly, all of my drug interaction issues. Mainly - me and drugs don't get along all that well. I'm allergic to penicillin and any -caines out there. I have such an adverse reaction to erythromycin I won't even consider anything in that family either. If it can make 2 percent of the population drowsy, it will knock me out. I have high blood pressure which affects what medications I can take. I won't take so much as an Advil unless I'm really hurting.

So my new doctor's office seem really efficient. The PA who saw my husband and I today was the same one who saw my daughter several weeks ago. I ran through my allergies and reactions with him when he diagnosed both of us with bronchitis. I thought it was unusual that he was giving me so many meds to take - including an albuterol inhaler which I have never used before (though my daughter did for the first 8 years of her life), and as I found out tonight - tessalon perles, which are in the caine family! So here I am, up at 1am after taking the inhaler and the codeine, feeling like I want to fall over, but unable to lay down and sleep because my blood pressure is currently at 145/68 and my heart sounds (to me) like it wants to pound out my ears....

I foresee another call to the doctor's office tomorrow....
