I've never thought about it like that. I'd just think that the cashiers would assume they're buying a gift for a child.

You would think most cashiers would, but there's apparently a small few who have actively pried the customer and made them feel bad about buying a doll for themselves. This is not the first story I've heard, there's been a few. :/

Were I in that situation, I wonder if I'd come up with something completely random and bizarre just to screw around with them. "No, I'm buying this for my child's birthday, she would have turned 7 this year." *tear face*

Haha... what zany thing would you guys come up with to screw with rude cashiers?

the only thing I've ever gotten was someone asking me if I needed a gift receipt for my ponies and dolls. I guess looking like a highschooler helps most of the time.

Yeah, I always get the gift receipt question. :P No clue how I'd respond if a cashier tried to be rude to me over it. Probably just stare at them like "Are you really doing this? Really?" then hubs would probably chew them out because BOY does he not tolerate employees not doing their job. lol

If anyone ever experiences this, please call a manager. Employee's have no business judging you about what you are PAYING for. I know I don't really have to say it to this crowd, we're all pretty much going to growl at whoever even tries to side-eye us, but to anyone new to the doll hobby in general: don't take employee crap. Don't take crap from anyone. It's none of their business what you pay for with your own money.

(unless it's your parents money... then they kinda have a say, but don't let them bully you!)

Last time someone was a jerk to me at the register my mom didn't let them get away with it. She's a cashier and she said that if a cashier treats you like that the manager should fire them on the spot. They CAN'T get away with it.

The only time I've had a cashier comment on my dolls was when I was at Walmart grabbing a couple Monsters (I think it was the CAM sets?) and also bought a book and some jeans and when my total came up I was like "I didn't think I spent THAT much." And the cashier was like "It's the dolls..."

>_> I spent like 40 bucks on dolls and less than half of that on everything else.

And it wasn't really a negative comment so much as a statement of fact.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

In my case - Disney store, teeny tiny Jack Sparrow (purely to pose with teeny tiny Obi Wan and have a sword fight... :D)
They asked who it was for, I deadpanned "Me." They looked rather embarassed on my behalf, and had a bit of a snigger about fancying Johnny Depp... sigh (I'm amongst the few that only like him as an actor rather than eyecandy) That store was closed down the next month...

It's mine, I'm building an unholy army of the night. Ever seen that Twilight Zone episode The Collection or After Hours/ever read Stephen King's Battleground/ever seen that Stuart Gordon movie The Dolls? Mine have. Or you do a Golem impression about your precious.

About all I get is asking if I'm going to sell the Monster on Ebay and I tell them it's mine.
