They're even prettier in real life. Actually, almost all dolls look better in real life than in the pictures, especially the company pictures.

Gretel is hands-down my fave vinyl sculpt. I own two of them, and have painted countless others. Gretels can be turned into the most boyish little boys, or be the frilliest girl that ever existed. Woot!

Here's a set of Gretels that I worked on a while ago; the boy is my Omi, and the girl is PR_Gerry's Aquarius. There's maybe about a year to a year and a half time between each shot. In the first shot, both of them are on 3-part bodies, by the second shot Omi had the lower torso of a 55cm given to him. Wish that I had a clearer shot of these two interacting... *sigh*

Gretel's are indeed lovely - and Rainman is the sculptor responsible for Elfdoll. I have a darling one that Kiki painted and modded. She's on a three-part with the older joints. She has been modded to have closed eyes (Kiki did that too!) Kiki left her head with me over the summer, and then over the Christmas break, and by then I was totally in love with her and had to buy her from Kiki! You will love yours, I am sure!

Of course there's also my two...both Z and Mitzi are Gretels, Z has the old-school head bought new at JunkySpot, complete with asymmetric eyes, no eyepockets, and slightly bigger than the "new school" Gretel. Mitzi is a "new school" Gretel, with eye pockets and a slightly smaller head. Z cannot wear a 7-8 wig, but must have a 8-9 wig instead. Mitzi can wear a 7-8 wig although it should be one with a stretchy cap.

I think that Rainman made the Gretel face distinctly Korean. This has influenced their back-stories. According to their back stories, Mitzi is Korean-American and her grandfather got political asylum in the US because he worked for UN forces during the Korean War. Z's mom is a Korean woman born in Japan to a family that had lived in Japan for two generations. She married Z's dad Nobu and the two emigrated to the US. Z's maternal family actually turned out to be related to Mitzi's family...they are second cousins. Oddly enough, Mitzi and Z's wife Yumiko Natsume were friends since second grade, when they were the only two Asian children in a class full of Latinos, punctuated by a few blacks and a few whites.

So yeah, Yumiko's friend turns out to be Z's cousin. And oh yeah: she plays drums.

In that picture she's wearing wine-red eyes, although they don't fit well in the eye pockets...too tight. Hard to adjust. Mitzi actually has a pair of Volks metallic "black" eyes -- they are actually a deep brown --

I also have a pair of glass eyes from Mimiwoo that I like a lot, but which require a wee bit of eye putty because they seem to be just a touch smaller than the eye pockets. They also look good, however.
