50cm do fit in some MSD clothing - but it can be a touch hit and miss. Some things will be a bit short. Now I got my basic 50cm into several Teen Trends outfits - but there aren't a lot of those out there.

If you sew you can pretty much take any SD pattern and reduce it to 85%. A little tweaking will get it to fit. I've also resized down some Build A Bear skirts to fit mine. And of cousre, there is always sock clothing! LOL

Also, I bought a pattern from Perfect Patterns that was designed for the 19" CED dolls. With only minimal tweaking (like shortening the top by 1/4" ) it fits as though it was designed for the VMF Type D! My guess (since I haven't tried it on one yet) is that it will maybe need to be taken in minimally to fit a standard 50cm. So I'd say CED patterns are a go - although they are also not real common :( In Total Sewing there is a thread dedicated to pattern resources!

When you see my girls - pretty much everything they wear I made from scratch or resizing an existing piece of clothing - and trust me when I say I'm no seamstress!

Okay, cool about the CEDs. I have 4 CED dolls already in my collection and clothing for them. Hubby also has 4 Tonner American Models who are similar in size (though taller) but their shorter items may work.

I am also wondering about Tonner DeeAnna Denton clothing. She is 17 inches and very curvy. We have dozens of that dollieh type and an extensive wardrobe. I am thinking some possibilities at least!

Thanks for the ideas.

For the most part, they will fit Tonner clothes. Long pants will be too short, but if you have shorts, it should be okay. The shirt that my 50cm is wearing in the photo is the shirt from a Tonner Draco. The Draco sweater and tie also work quite nicely. Unfortunately, the shoes, and socks were a wee bit on the tight side, and the pants were about an inch too short.

Here's a shot of another obitsu wearing clothes from a doll a size larger than the Draco.... you can see some of the problems I encountered with it. My 50cm (Niko) is in his Draco shirt, and had the tie in this shot. The gray shirt, pinstriped pants, socks and shoes on the 60cm are from the same set, it was from the Narnia line, but I don't recall the name of the doll/character. BTW, the arm length was pretty nice, I just had the sleeves shoved up for the shot.

MDD, MSD, and 1:4 are theoretically the same size/scale. More or less around 45cm.
SD, SD10, SD13 and 1:3 same deal... about 60cm.
SD17 I think is 70cm? But it also falls into the 1:3 scale.
Pretty much 1:3 is just about anything that goes from about 50cm to 80cm? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
As far as I know, there's only one company that produces a 1:2 scale doll, and that bugger is 90cm.

MDD stands for Mini Dollfie Dream. MSD is Mini Super Dollfie. Pretty much, most people use SD, MSD, Yo-SD and Dollfie (I know I'm missing some) terms generically, which they shouldn't... since they are in fact, specific to the the Volks company. Other companies use their own terminology for their own dolls. Soom has Gems, Luts has Delfs, and so forth.

Yo-SD, SDC, MSD, SD, SD10, SD13, SD16, and SD17 plus afew others are actually copyrighted by Volks, but because volks generally set the standards for BJDs, most people tend to use their terminology at this point. Volks and Customhouse are the oldest Asian Ball Jointed doll companies actually... However, this is kind of off topic on the vinyls. In the world of vinyls, there is only (for the most part) 1/6 "barbie," 1/4 minis, and the 1/3 50cm, 60cm, and 65cm.

Generally speaking, 1/6 is Tiny, 1/4 is Mini and 1/3 is Large. 50cm sometimes is placed in the mini category, but is generally considered to be a "Large." The 1/6 and 1/3 ends have the largest variety of sizes, but mini is only really the 40cm-47cm range for the most part minus a few of Bluefairy's and the Volks Ian (the first Volks MSD/a prototype) which are only 36-40cm or so (considered as short MSDs).

Dollmore, Supergem and Dream of doll clothing should fit DDs/DDDys.

List w/images of various Obitsu and Volks heads: http://nijiura-doll.info/wiki.cgi?page=monster

For the sake of bringing this up, is it Volks NORMAL skin that matches Obitsu WHITE skin or is it Obitsu NORMAL that matches? As I saw a matching hybrid with Volks normal + Obitsu white. Would be good to note.

The only images I could find of an Obitsu vs a Dollfie Dream:

Clothing:
SDC, MSD and MDD are similar in size. However, SDC and MDD are a bit slimmer then MSD. I suspect the 50cm would fit in the slimmer "MSD" clothing, except things like pants and such would be short. Friends2Bmade would have cheap clothing that would fit, but it's getting harder to find (it was a part of Build a Bear). Just note SDC have smaller heads (6"-7"), while MSD is larger (7"-8") and I don't know what MDD is off hand.
SD10, SD13, DDII, DDDy are similar in size. The DD*s are slimmer however, but the clothing is mostly interchangable.
It's very dependent on the specific item in general.

Currently in Vinyls, there is only really a few sizes around right now.
Volks has: MDD (Mini Dollfie Dream), DD (Dollfie Dream, the originals which are actually strung with elastic), DDII (Dollfie Dream II, the current line) and DDDy (Dollfie Dream Dynamite, the really curvy ones)--no males, but has more head mold options
Obitsu has: 50cm girl, 60cm female, 60cm male, 65cm female and I heard rumors of a 65cm male coming out plus the VMFs which I don't know a lot about--larger variety of bodies

Back on the subject of body stockings, Volks has some, they're bust/legs covering only, which does work with more outfits, however unless your doll is "well endowed" they have a tendency to slide down. In my opinion, i would not buy one with a MDD as they don't tend to stay up well.

Ms. Geek bought some from here: http://shop.ebay.com/beachgirlnikita/m. ... m270.l1313 Which are fairly nice, full body ones so if you want one, you could buy these or dare to make one. So far, they seem to be holding up pretty nicely.

With the Gretel head, I probably wouldn't go any larger then about a 18mm, as the 16mm already look fairly large and 18mm would probably totally fill up the eyes (Volk's Anime eyes are all 20mm or 22mm I think). However, you can buy some anime styled eyes in smaller sizes from Soul Doll called "bling eyes" link: http://souldoll.com/shop/step0.php?b_co ... 0517072522 I do not know of any other companies who make these anime type eyes besides Soul Doll and Volks.
Also just to note, nothing larger then 16mm fits in the new Gretel's eye pockets (tried & failed). Soul Doll 16mm eyes will NOT fit due to their shape in the ones with eye pockets.

I would suggest considering getting a Den of Angels account (if you don't have one), at least for the purpose of going through the patterns and tutorials on the site, which there is a lot of if you're up for sewing.
Link to a tutorial on the site that shows how to make waist high stockings that I suspect could be used for a body stocking: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showt ... !-tutorial

Ran out of URL space, so here's one more of the Volks Medium vs the Large bust plus the Peach Pai (which is squishy)

And again, pardon the massive post over load. x.x; Hopefully it makes some sense!

Volks Normal (DD2) = Obitsu White Skin

A number of my girls mix some Volks Normal colored vinyl with their Obitsu White Skin.
(Once again, this picture is in serious need of updating. Will it never end?)
Image
Statistics listed from top:
Base Model (All dolls are Obitsu except Pinky who is a Volks. Partly.)
Head Sculpt (Yeah, Harukas. I blame Hazel.)
Exterior Modifications (excluding ears and tails)
Additional Modifications

The DD2 Tan, as seen in one of the Ikki Tousen DDDy dolls, is a pretty good match to Obitsu Flesh tone.

And for the sheer sake of completion - Biff's list of doll sizes available from Obitsu is missing 2: 55cm male and 47cm female. The 47cm female body is a bit oddly proportioned in comparison to the others - more chunky and child-like.

Wow! I am an info sponge, so there is NEVER too much information for me. :D Thank you so much!

K2, question on your lovely photo - is Miyuki a straight 50cm Obitsu body? And what bust does Pinky have?

Thanks to you all for the great links, too.

Thanks, too, for the abbreviation explanations and the clothing information. I think the Tonner clothing Kiki is talking about are from the Pevensie character family. They range in size from 17-19 inches and had the courtly clothes and the casual clothing. I have most of that already too, as well as the school sets from the Harry Potter dolls of the same size because they fit my DeeAnna Denton dolls and my larger Tonner guys. :) So I may already have clothing, though I have a different style in mind for my new lady.

Miyuki is a stock 50cm except for her head. Pinky has the Volks MDD large bust.
