THAT's the dress they called you an ita for Jess?! I love it and I'm not even really into lolita ^^

I like looking at Lolita pics, some of them, but I wouldn't wear it myself. I like some parts of the style, like the wide skirts with the petticoats. You'll need a lot of self confidence to wear this style though, because as you said, most people don't 'get' it. I saw a lolita girl in the city a few weeks ago and she was badmouthed constantly, out loud, by both kids and adults. You need to be quite strong-headed to be able to throw your nose in the air and just walk on and be proud.

The only other place where I've seen lolita and other striking fashion styles, is Dolliverse, the Dutch BJD convention. On that day people seem to go 'all out' to express themselves and indeed, I almost felt uncomfortable in my regular skirt and casual blazer XD

But I can see me doing lolita 40 years ago...when I was slim and cute. Now I am just old and tired, which can pass for "dignified." In my hippie days I did a lot of Gunnie Sax style prairie dresses, which were not that far off from lolita.

Well, I wasn't a hippie (hehe) but I rocked the Gunnie Sax dresses, too, so yeah, I'd being wearing Lolita styles if I were young again. Drat old age .... makes me want to believe in reincarnation! LOL

Also, I don't get the "ida" name calling? What is it supposed to mean and why is it derogatory?

I just looked it up. Basically they called her a cheapskate. I just looked at a thread on Cosplay.com after searching lolita ita in the search engine and they were as snobby as can be saying stuff about not knowing lace types ect and doing shopping at hot topic. Basically being douches with absolutely no time on their hands other then to doll themselves up and snark.

You look lovely in that dress. I love lolita fashions (Especially gothic lolita) but I could never have the guts to wear them. (Not exactly the prettiest thing on the block. Skin problems and alopecia to boot....I think I'm beautiful in my own way but I really feel self conscious so it just wouldn't be my thing.) But doesn't mean my future MSD/and other dolliehs wouldn't wear it.

I love sewing frills and things so making outfits like lolita for my dolls would be a lot of fun for me. ^^ (Once I get a sewing machine that's decent.)

"Ita" isn't really another word for cheapskate, it's basically a negative term for someone that's wearing 'fake lolita clothes'. Other than how lolita clothes tend to look, there seems to have several 'rules' as to what you shouldn't do when being a 'real lolita' (e.g. skirt shouldn't be shorter than a certain length, cheap laces are frowned up, etc...). Btw, if you don't know the rules, it's quite easy to break them, even if you wear brand-name lolita clothes.

It is an expensive and time-consuming hobby to have, so I can see why a lot of them have quite a bit of pride in it but that's not a good excuse to put other people down. I don't like the fact they actually have a separate label for people that don't quite fit in their community, but plenty of people that love the lolita fashion are also quite nice and will just gently point out what you need to fix. ;)

I suppose it's like topic vs off-topic dolls.. Some doll enthusiasts look down an anything that isn't resin *shrug* Some lolitas look down on anyone that isn't how they wish lolita to be..

I have new shoes! (from Bodyline) Image And they are veeeeery pink indeed!

This is my day-to-day style Image Not OTT lolita, just pretty dresses and big bows.

I am so not built to be a lolita - I've got hips and a chest, two things not conducive to any clothing style from Asia. I love Aristo style but man.....money just happens to constantly go to dolls lol.
