Tell me about your Pullips!

Postby mygreenpajamas » Mon Aug 06, 2012 12:55 pm

hello! i've been into BJDs for a few years now. at first i collected SDs but those are gone now. i felt like "downsizing" so now i have 2 littlefees, a wonderling from the mushroom peddler, and a pukipuki on the way (<3 fairyland!).

i've been thinking about getting into pullips though. i used to think they were a bit odd looking and strange but i got to see one irl at a doll meet and she was really cute. so i've read a bit about them and i might just take the plunge. i must admit that i could use a little bit of a push in the right direction, google can only take me so far. I'm really gushing over the hatsune miku pullip but i just want to hear about the experience that others have.

what was your first impression on pullips?
why do you like them?
is a character doll (hatsune miku, rei ayanami) a good starter?
any good sites to check out for dolls, clothes, etc?

any help is much appreciated ^_^

thank you!

Well, I actually got into BJD because of Pullips! I had four little Pullip sitting on my desk, and my wonderful co-workers secretly bought me the full-sized Pullip, Zora, as a Birthmas gift (my B-day is a week before Xmas). That led me to looking online for Pullip groups which led me to seeing a resin BJD which led me to the Junkyspot website and the rest is history LOL.

As for Pullip themselves, at this point I have four of the full-sized ones. Zora, Chill, Mir and a Taeyang called Maguna. I'm probably unlike most folks in that I don't "play" with my Pullp. For me the pleasure is in how they look when I receive them, so I don't customize or reclothe them or anything like that. I suppose you could say that to me they are more display dolls.

Obviously they do not stand on their own - in fact sometimes I have trouble getting them to stand in a stand because of how the heads out weigh the bodies! However, I think that if you did a body swap, and put the Pullip head on a much more pose friendly Obitsu body you'd have better luck. I know a lot of people do that when they want to play more with them and customize them.

As far as what pullip to buy - I think that really depends on your intent. I buy the doll because I like the complete package. As I said, I have no intent of redressing or playing with mine, so which doll I have is purely a matter of aesthetics. If you plan on redressing your doll, rewigging, or otherwise customizing, then I think the only thing that will really matter is maybe the skintone of the doll - so it matches what you want. For example, Mir is WHITE, while Zora is a light tan, but there was one called Na-Ahto that was a darker tan.

You can check Pullip-Style and see if they have a "dent box sale" doll that you like, and that way get it for less than usual if you plan on redoing the doll.

But when it comes down to it, I think one Pullip is much like another when it's butt nekkid and bald LOL

SO! I checked on Pullip Style and found that they had a Hatsune Miku in the dent box sales!!! I immediately, without giving it much thought, purchased her and she came today! She is ADORABLE! I think she's definitely more of a display doll. It's funny that you mentioned that some people use Obitsu bodies for the Pullip heads because... well, idk... I just kinda expected them to have bodies similar to Obitsu. She isn't nearly as flexible or as, well, sturdy as the Obitsu bodies. Since she's a display dollie, I'm not too worried.

While the outfit is really well made, the velcro seam on the skirt has come undone. It doesn't stay on her and just tends to drop down. I don't know if it's worth sending Pullip Style a message over but I'm not sure. If anyone knows about how, if they even would, go about remedying this, please let me know.

In conclusion, my Pullip is really nice to look at and I can't wait to take her to a doll meet! I do plan on possibly getting more (most likely from the Vocaloid line)!

<_< I did have one Little Pullip, but I ended up not liking her that much and selling her.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

Oh dear. Oh my. I must not go back to that place. Too much temptation. My daughter has the Miku Pullip from JS and a friend of mine has a couple of Pullips (including a lovely Alice version) so I know how they look and feel. They definitely aren't the pose-able type of doll like BJDs and aren't easy to dress (we've been too afraid to even try to remove Miku's boots  ), but Pullips are soooooo adorable! And Pullip Style has some great prices .....

Does anyone know the measurements of the Dal size?

Yep, if you want a Pullip that poses well you have to put them on an Obitsu body. If you ever want to try it there is a tutorial on the Parabox website that shows how :)

It's so funny about dressing a Pullip. My Zora came without her boots on and despite my best attempts I have NEVER been able to get one of them on all the way LOL. It's not noticeable thankfully, because of how I have her standing, but I have to be sure her legs aren't too close together or it's really obvious LOL

I'm so glad to hear you found a Pullip so quickly! I love those dent box sales!

Kirahfaye, I'm not 100% sure but I think Dal falls in the 23cm size.
