What is this?

Postby myotishia » Mon Feb 06, 2012 2:03 pm

To more experienced collectors this may be obvious but when I got both my Impldoll yosd sized they came with a little extra resin that looks like it should be for... Something. Sadly I have no idea what that could be.
Here's Niako to show you.

And a close up of the item.

So, any ideas?

Looks like a resin donut for inside the head. They have a couple different purposes. Sometimes they can be used to make a head sit higher/increase mobility. Here's a link to someone(I think, but am not sure since it's not my native language) demonstating this. http://sugidolls.wordpress.com/2011/12/ ... limpldoll/

They can also be used for attaching a head to a body where the head wasn't designed for a normal s-hook attachment. This is how my floating head will get attached. I can post a picture hopefully this evening if I can get my computer at home working.

That's what I thought. I had to cut one down to fit in my SD size doll's head. :S

Okay, this might sound a bit off the wall, but could it be and added piece for the waist?

I'm personally confused as to why it is not just skin tone, aka what's with grey?
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

I would guess it is a "washer" that goes between the inside of the head and the "S" hooks holding the elastics. It's "C" shaped so you can just slip it under the "S" hooks with out threading the elastic through them. And it's got those slight indentations on the inside hole to keep the "S" hook from slipping out. Putting the "S" hook on this washer would take point stress off of the hole in the base of the head and spread it more evenly around the hole.
It's got the gray swirl in it because they probably pour these at the end of the day with what ever resin is left.

Or one of the workers dropped a partially eaten wintergreen and coal tar lifesaver in the box.

It's definitely what K2 said--the washer, not the lifesaver. I am going to guess someone dropped it into the box by accident. There's no reason to waste resin at the end of the day so they pour a few odds and ends that fit inside bodies and won't be seen from whatever they have left over.

That particular piece, often called a "donut", is very useful if you have a head with a large neckhole as well.

Ahh cool. It's a shame they don't really fit in my boys head but they'll most likely be useful later . ^_^
