I kind of had the reverse thing, "so do you think people would like to buy doll sized rugs? I think I could start making those rather easily". That would be my mom, who previously didn't "get" my doll hobby....
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

...... the last dolls I got as presents from anyone were Sailor Moon dolls that my aunt got for me when I was 17. (She died of lung cancer later that year.) She was an awesome aunt. And she was also a collector (she obsessed with Beanie Babies, and a few other things), so of course when anyone told her they liked a certain thing she would get as many items related to that thing for them as she possibly could. A lot of my Pokemon and Sailor Moon collection came from her... did I mention she was like the most freaking awesome aunt in the whole world? (She always got everyone in the family presents for birthdays and Christmas, but she would also be on the lookout for things she knew people loved anytime she was shopping.)

So, yeah... don't have any stories of dollieh-misunderstandings.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

During a doll party my neighbor came over to ask about something (I don't remember what, she probably wanted to use my phone.) She saw us with our multitude of dolls sprawled all across the table, and said, "I'll let you get back to your Barbie's." I like Barbies to some extent, but does Ivan really look like a Barbie doll? hahahahaha... I didn't get it. A table full of 1/3 boys and... Barbies. I was amused. But then decided not to tell her what they were or how much they cost, cause she might steal them for drug money. (My neighbor was a pain-pill junky at the time.)

My close family is pretty cool about my doll hobby. My mom looks for doll stuff at yard sales and second hands stores. She knows that the doll might be ugly but you can still steal it's clothes. My dad has been finding me neat props. He collects Coca-Cola and has mini cola bottles I can use. My sisters and brother thankfully know what's going on. :D

Almy and me stayed at one of my uncles' house last time we went to a doll meet. "So they're like Barbie?" :insert angry face: My aunt and one of my cousins set him straight for us. XD

My parents are the only ones who seem to see the charm of it and even when I first got Haruka I got the: "I'm worried about you, your fourteen and playing with dolls still...." I don't play with Haruka like I did with my barbies. I don't make little voices or move her around like she's walking. I pose her and try to practice scenes and set ups for photographs as well as sew for her and have her pose in the clothes I make to ensure they fit.

I enjoy my hobby I think it's better then what I could be doing and it's harmless....I don't see why people get so up in arms about it.

My mom tries to get it. She really does. She loves tiny things and miniatures and such, so she assumed that my hobby has something to do with that. And while part of it may have stemmed from that - because really, dolly-sized teacups and pastries are friggin' adorable - but really, it's mostly because of the creative outlet dolls present. There's just soooo much you can do with them. From sketching and designing the clothing, to making jewelry and props, to painting the dolls, to doing photoshoots, to designing characters and backstories... it's a little bit of everything. It was kind of cute to listen to her trying to pack up my dolls to ship them back down to me in Florida, and when she zipped Rune into his carrying case she said "Oh no, it's like I'm putting him in a coffin! Go to sleep, dolly, you'll be home soon." I giggled so bad.

I think the closest thing to a misunderstanding I had was when my mom's friend gave me these two doll-sized kimono. They were from one of her trips to Japan, cuz she's a globetrotter (which is hella cool, but besides the point) and actually fit my MSD dolls perfectly, though they don't have any obi, so I'll have to make some... the problem is, they're actually really kinda....ugly lol. I appreciate the gift and all, but.... ;>_> the colors clash something awful, so I know my dolls probably won't ever actually wear them. She also knows I detest the color pink and one of them was...you guessed it, pink as a freshly slapped newborn's behind.

This of course was my mistake because my mom took it as "Sure, why not?" so a few days later she hands me an old oval box about the size of an msd and tells me it's the doll head.
I open the lid slowly, not sure about what I'm going to find and the contents turn out to be completely terrifying. It's a reeeeally old porcelain doll head that once had eyes and realistic eyebrows. It also seems to have very real teeth and it's just overall horrible and scary. I couldn't throw it back at her like I wanted and so now it sits in the deep darkness of my closet.
My mom knows better really but the rest of my family just assumes I like all dolls.

Should I feel weird if I would love to have that?

Anyways,I have incidents like this all of the time (none of course resulting in awesomely weird old stuff ;_; ). I'm the black sheep of the family so I never really expected to accept my choices or try to take interest in my hobbies.I do randomly get weird porcelian dolls and old things that are totally not what I want, but it still warms my heart that they thought of me for once instead of just nodding their head pretending to be enthused when I find some adorable doll or something Japanesey (usually what it involves) to squeal about.

Best family derp moment pertaining dolls: I just revealed my newest doll,a Fdoll Glenn named Adraine. He's my first and only boy doll (for now! lol). My mom was so amused that he had a penis! xD I still think that he's the only doll that I have that she mildly likes...only because he has boy bits. We like to call him "baby penis".
