EEP! o_o I hope I hadn't sounded like a DoA basher at all. I honestly never knew there was anything "
insane" going on over there. I'm only aware of the invitation-only thing >_> Which is why I'm not on DoA *sigh*

I second this statement. If I ever say anything about DoA its totally not to be rude or disrespectful, or to "bash" anybody. No harm intended :)

The deal with DoA is not that you're expected to only think or say nice things about them. It's that most threads about DoA tend to follow a predictable down-hill path. Eventually, it will turn first into a bash festival then members will start getting testy with each other. When you see the same thing happen over and over again, year after year, it gets a bit tedious.

We've also had to deal with a certain perception that DS is somehow an "anti-DoA". I see DS and 13 Doll before it as an alternative, a board that has a different "take" on the hobby. I think it's possible to disagree with the way another board is run without being in opposition to it. We're not at war with them, we simply do things a bit differently here.

I hope that made sense because I'm a bit sleep deprived at the moment. :?

It wasn't that anyone was actually bashing when the latest thread got locked, it was just that we recognize the signs that it's heading that way so we just try and nip it in the bud before it actually reaches that point :) So no one was really doing anything as severe as "bashing" yet, we were just making a preemptive strike (so to speak).

If anyone ever wants or needs invites, just let me know. I think I have only ever invited one person.

I haven't always been complimentary of the place, but I am not going to bash it. It has some very great aspects. Some intimidating ones, too. I lurk, read, buy there. I post, converse and share here. Two different atmospheres. Nothing more. :)

I get very, very impatient with DoA "rules" that are completely arbitrary, and patently obvious decisions to persecute particular groups of people (the "over 50s" and "over 30s" that I know of for certain). "Because I said so" never worked with me, and never will.

I'll second Misheru's offer as well about DoA memberships - I hand those puppies out like candy LOL. Seriously though, for all they do have some weird rules and can be frustrating - there is no better place to see a wide variety of BJD in owner situations, purchase oodles of stuff second-hand, and get great tips and tutorials for sewing/faceups/etc... I can't recommend their workshop area enough for the great things I've found there!

I can third it!
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

I'll keep it in mind and bug one of you later about it lol. Ijust took a gander at their rules and kinda backed off on the idea of ever joining. I don't own ANY on topic dolls for that forum so I feel like I wont be able to participate much there :/

Well I will say this much: the people in the Sewing and Customizing threads could not be nicer. And I've gotten some fantastic stuff out of the MP. And since they made "one of us" a mod in the over 55 thread, there haven't been the modly abuses in there of the past.

But seriously, I pretty much stay away from most of the other threads, partly because I end up wanting to take a ruler and slap the fingers of people that post in txtspek, or otherwise mangle the English language, and partly because I can't be bothered to get wrapped up in the Drahmah.
