You could drill a series of small holes down the length of the neck and fill each with plugs of hair. If they were close enough together it would be like rooting. Or carve a narrow trench down the neck and do the same thing. Yes, I have thought about it :)

Gosh, you have more patience than I. Using a pin vise drilling all those holes would make me go nuts.

I wouldn't drill it -- I'd make a "horse wig" - a long strip of thin fabric (pleather? Ultrasuede?) the same color as the horse was going to be (or as close as possible), and stitch the mane hair to or through that, and glue it down. Do it so the mane hides the fabric, and all you see is the hair. Could definitely do that for the tail, all you'd need was about as much physical tail as a horse usually has to use as a base.

I do agree about the mane looking more aesthetically pleasing on the side where the head is turned towards you... since that would be the side most likely to be facing the viewer if he wasn't in a "in the round" display..

Still gorgeous.

Get those pre-wefted hair and glue them on? XD

Maybe use two wefts side-by-side so the weft isn't visible, or something like that.

I like him a lot although I would have preferred the head to be a bit more defined. He looks like an arabian and I prefer the more extreme dished face that you get with other arabian model horses. Still he is a really great sculpt and he has a lot of presence :D

Well, look at it this way - an SD doll will cost more than $400 in general, and this horse, in order to be in proportion, is basically big enough to be about 2 SD dolls in size (2 could ride it definitely), so the price really isn't that bad. This sucker is probably big.

They are estimating that this bugger is gonna weigh in at 15lbs. So, I can totally understand the price tag... doesn't mean I'm in the market for a horsie, but at least I understand it. I like the fact that they are reinforcing the legs with steel.

Right now I am soooooo glad that none of my boys is into horse-back riding. *tosses blanket over Omi and Erik before they can make any inappropriate comments on the subject*

It is a beautiful horse! I have had the privledge of seeing it in person in its earlier stage (I don't think the mane had been sculpted on yet when I last saw it). And the sculptor is such a lovely sweet person, too. Budget wise though, I don't think one will be coming to stay with me for a while. At least for a very long while. So we're just making due with the MyTwinn horses which are much larger and nicer than the American Girl ones......and they are easily customizeable...you can pull the tail plug out and the mane piece out and pretty much replace it with whatever color hair you want. I "chalked" and then sealed the rump of one of our horses to give it a "mountain horse" look like the one on The Man from Snowy River. Here's our MyTwinn horses (they weigh about 7-8 pounds each and get heavy to carry around on our photoshoots). The MyTwinn site says they fit 23" dolls and I can attest to that. But I do hope to be able to have this new resin horse sometime in the future. It really is a beauty!
