Got a Wizarding World Sirius Black for my collection, yays! I still want Bellatrix but she's just so damn expensive. Why can't they release these in the US like they used to?

The Silver Bullets of Annie Oakley won the Dragon Award for Best Alternate History

A few days ago I saw The Silver Bullets of Annie Oakley on the book and magazine rack at the single grocery market in the podunk little rural town where I live! I mean, there it was, where they usually have the Ludlum and Grisham and King novels! That's Big League, to be prominently featured (3 copies) on the limited display space in the middle of nowhere! I was so excited I snapped a picture:

The little local library, which has almost no science fiction or fantasy (other than some Percy Jackson novels in the children's section, but not a single Asimov or Heinlein), has about a dozen Mercedes Lackey books on the shelves!

Whoa. That's more market penetration than I had any idea of!

Love to see pics when you finish. You are so good at that! I keep mine in the boxes so even if I could figure out how to re-root, I wouldn't on mine. I think they did a great job on his facial features tho. I'm glad they had hair on the Dumbledore since I did use one of those to make my wizard warrior doll. I've done some painting on dolls, but I have kept my modding to a minimum as I just don't feel confident.

Wow. I would never have guessed! I already have the one Belle I liked there, but that Mandalorian figure was tempting.

Meantime, I have given up waiting for the Smart Doll I wanted to be available again. I think just the 2 I have now will be enough. So, I gave in and bought all three of the Rainbow High Rainbow Vision Kpop dolls from Walmart online. I told the DH we can put them away for my birthday later this month.

I wouldn't even know where to look for a J.C. Penney. Do they still exist?

Oh, right... at the opposite end of the mall from Montgomery-Ward!

To build up confidence in modding get some dolls from the junk store. Congratulations if you can do more damage than a toddler. If it's sculpting you aren't sure about Prang DAS is budget friendly for goofs, soaks off with water, and quality enough if you make something good.

And it's fascinating to think that the Sears catalog still exists, it's just gone digital.

Does it really?

Ah, I see. There's a Sears website, but most sales are outsourced to independent retailers:

https://www.sears.com/search=monster%20high

Sears should have been what Amazon became. Sears had the know-how, they had the warehouse and delivery infrastructure in place, they were the biggest "mail order" chain in history. Why, oh why, did they not see the potential of the Internet? How could they not have recognized the potential for putting their entire catalog online, saving themselves the expense of printing and mailing those phone-book sized Wish Books? The failure of Sears to capitalize on their established expertise by simply moving their print catalog online has to be one of the biggest business blunders in retail history.

Very astute comments on Sears, ddavid. They certainly missed an opportunity.

Got my RH Kpop girls, pics in the RH thread. I will unbox them in a day or two and get some better pictures. They are way cute.
