And while we're talking about it maybe someone who owns a fer can answer this for me. I looks to me like all those ruffles are unhemmed. Won't they eventually get ragged and unravel? I would be pissed if I paid that much for doll dress and it started shedding threads. I could be wrong. I've never seen one in person. So please correct me if I am.

One day I'm going to make a "fer" out of socks.

One contest at a time people LOL...Let's just say that once Resu's contest is over...some time around our first anniversary as Dollieh Sanctuary...I will be doing a nice contest with awesome prizes :)

Actually, I'm still trying to figure out what the heck is so awesome about a Fer. You're right - it looks like a dress made of unhemmed layers. Mind you there are times when I like that look - but sheesh - are they THAT special?

A sock Fer - I LOVE IT!!! But you know, they'd just rag on you for violating Doll Heart (or whoever makes it) copyright.

(My misspelling is making me imagine a doll wearing an X-mas tree now... XD)

I don't really know either (the only non-homemade BJD clothes I have are a few staples from Dollmore and the outfit my Puki came with, I guess I don't love my dolls enough). I think it's a pretty dress, but the way people always talk about it by name, I thought it was a doll mold for a while! It's like the red-soled high heel of the doll world.

Also, a sock fer would be so warm and wintery and fantastic. You should use patterned socks for the ruffles.
Where did all these 1/6s come from?!

The ability of people to argue about inane topics astounds me. Thus why I rarely go beyond my few favorite threads over at DOA.

I'm sure VV didn't intend to broad stroke the issue. I've often found that some of the nastiest people I've had to deal with have everything handed to them, but they never learned how to appreciate it. Still, some of the more vocal haters at DOA can make me want to go off on them like a match in a hay silo.

Personally,I think it's cool that someone would be creative enough to make something new from a sock!
I mean who would think that a sock would make a perfectly good dress, pants, or even a hat for a doll?

Haters gonna hate unfortunately, they just don't know the creativity they miss out on.

I suspect that the haters couldn't sew their way out of a cardboard box - which is why they hate the creativity of those who can or at least try :)

Is it just me, or are the very ones who are "sick" of being called "elitist snobs" the most guilty of acting that very way? Hey, if it looks like a duck...

ahahah!
I agree with ya there.
People always have a hard time dealing with the reality perception of themselves though someone else.
Instead of just accepting what is more than likely true, "oh crap, I'm kinda a snob" they turn it into something they feel they have to defend by saying they aren't snobs, they just have standards.
Personally I think having standards leads to some kind of snobbery and we are all guilty of it like it or not.

I really don't understand why it's much of a debate. It's just a matter of choice and starting points for beginners.
Personally I don't have a problem with sock oufits, I can't say I"ve made one before but with all the heated talk of socks lately I'm thinking I should give it a try.
After all it is easy. =p

I think that even cutting off a toe shoes some initiative twards creativity, I mean not every beginner can be an advanced beginner. I know if my husband were to cut off a toe he'd be super proud of his "dolly outfit" and going around saying 'look what I made". And there's nothing wrong with that. The other "non-sock- people" shouldn't assume it lazy just like they don't want people to assume they are "elistist snobs".

I think that's what was most silly about the debate, the "lazyness of sock-people" but isn't it also lazy to just turn around and buy something. HOw lazy you are you don't even want to make your own clothes.lol

The whole sock issue I really just think is hilarious.

Ahhh the Dollheart Fer, which is MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ANY OUTFIT I HAVE FOR ME! is made of miles of raw, unhemmed ruffles. Which by me would be FINE if the ruffles were made of something like my favorite power mesh which does not need hemming....but they are not. They are made of cotton muslin. I've seen one that has been laundered a time or two...after washing it does shed threads and I have to wonder if it weren't from Dollheart, how people would think about it.

I know there is at least one person here who loves her Dollheart Fers, and her dolls look lovely in them, but I would never, ever spend that kind of money on an outfit that has raw unhemmed cotton edges. That's just me, you can spend your money however you like.

And yes, I did paint my armchair shrink post with a very broad brush. The exceptions prove the rule.
All you damn kids get offa my lawn!
