I like to create fanfics in my head - I don't actually write them because I've always had difficulty expressing my imagination in words. I spent nearly 2 years on my last one, and now I feel like I'm ready to let it end. I'm going to miss the characters, but I'm not overly sad, because in several days I'm going to have my hands full with two gorgeous new resin boys who I'm dying to get to know!

Nothing wrong with writing them down even if its just for yourself. That big long story has its roots in fan fiction as do a few others that I've been able to mold in to more original ideas over the years.

Right now I'm in the middle of making collages of people and characters that have inspired stories no matter how original, fan fiction, or somewhere in between they are. Even if they don't have a story just an idea.

That's true. Sometimes when I remember bits and pieces of stories I used to enjoy imagining when I was younger, it makes me a little sad that I never took the time to write them down, if only for my own enjoyment.

Anyway, collages sound like a really unique way to celebrate what inspires you! Could you please post pics (if it's not too personal)?

A writer is someone on whom nothing is lost- (forgot who said that)

Do an image search on writer's notebooks to se what I'm going to get in to, kind of like an art journal without the personal journaling but definitely getting personal in the ideas I'm not ready to share yet department. A bit like a commonplace book too. I've heard it compared to a junk yard of the mind. The big thing is there are no rules outside or your own. I'm also playing Wreck This Journal to see what I end up with.

I'll post links, some might be big.

Wow, those are really neat! :) Thank you for sharing! I have never heard of art journals before, but they sound like something I'd enjoy doing. Might have to ask my mom to let me borrow her stash of magazines and newspapers!

Anyway, my favorite pictures that you shared were the "Monsters and masked men" (since I like those things too) and the photoshop of the man in the suit (the first picture). I just love a man in makeup!

Look up photographer Mike Ruiz, he did the man in the suit, and wait until you see his other stuff. The bulk of my pictures are stuff I found on the internet and printed out myself. If I get something done at a print shop it never fails I'll find something I forgot or didn't like the size or came out too dark or something. A few complicated things and some color charts I did have the print shop do because it was beyond my printer.

Art journals are great. You use mixed media and words to express what ever you feel like expressing. You decide what goes in to it. It's up to you how personal or public it is.

My roomie is a writer and she's been reading her latest story to me. I'm really loving it. ^_^

OK I will definitely look up Mike Ruiz. My dad recently bought a new printer, so I could definitely print stuff out for my own art journal too! Thanks for the idea!

Art journals sound like a particularly great idea for someone like me because I find that I have a very difficult time expressing myself in words. Maybe expressing myself through an art journal would help me a little?

It might help a lot. There are no hard rules. You can start with a blank book or alter one. You can make one from scratch. If you need prompts there are books like Wreck This Journal that can help get you started.

Often I'll use a picture or a set of pictures that inspire me and just write out what ever comes, sometimes I'll add drawings and stuff. Some of my stories started off as drawing out the ideas for the actions and the words came later. It might take longer to name a character than figure out what they're up to.
